Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11

Figures, I picked up the existing Blu just a few weeks ago. No word on specs, although The Digital Bits says it will include new extras. Here is the artwork:

New extras? I would think the only new extra is the DVD. The first release has quite a bit, what more would they add?

The audio, which was way too low on the existing Blu, needs to get improved.

Didn't the BD have all the extras from the SE DVD, which was pretty packed? I've wanted to buy this fucker on BD. Remember it being at $8.99 at some point at Amazon too....

Volume is at a low level, but it's a very good audio track. Not sure they would go back and remaster the audio, since the PQ is already pretty damn good.

You know wtf I'd want. A Robert De Niro commentary track w/ Scorsese. Don't leave De Niro alone though...he might just...be quiet a lot. I dunno why..but I imagine De Niro would be mum a good chunk of the time.

Gimme a De Niro/Scorsese track.

Pains me DeNiro would do commentary for the dumb ass Focker movies, but not one damn Scorsese movie.

It was cheap for quite a while. This explains why. The stock was probably being dumped in preparation for the re-release.

Wasn't there a pic issue, some kind of vertical stripe that could be seen depending on your tv's brightness level? Would be nice to get a nice a new transfer but I certainly would not expect it. At least these combo's are almost always pretty cheap...

Mixed low =/= low quality.

Gimme a f'n break ..already starting on the double dips with BluRays now? I just picked this up a few months ago. As much as I like this movie no way am I double dipping. Already bought the 2 disc DVD, then bought the Blue. They should start getting it right the first time.

So it looks like this new release will have just under an hour of new bonus features. From blu-ray.com:

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=5586

Raging Bull 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Announced

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, in conjunction with MGM Home Entertainment, has announced Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition for Blu-ray release on January 11, 2011, in a BD/DVD combo. This Martin Scorsese movie had already been released on Blu-ray in 2009. This new edition boasts over 50 minutes of brand-new features.

Special features include:

* Commentaries (on the DVD):
* Director Martin Scorsese and editor Thelma Schoonmaker
* Cast and crew
* Storytellers
* Marty & Bobby (new)
* Raging Bull: Reflections on a Classic (new)
* Remembering Jake (new)
* Marty on Film (new)
* Cathy Moriarty on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, March 27, 1981 (new)
* Raging Bull: Fight Night
* The Bronx Bull
* DeNiro vs. LaMotta
* LaMotta Defends Title

No mention of any remastered picture or audio, just those few additional extras.

This is a top 20 title for me.

A new transfer = immediate pre-order.

No new transfer = no purchase.

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11

Why did they even release the original version in 2009? Why not just wait and make this the debut? Sort of sad that we're seeing double dips on BD when there are literally thousands and thousands of titles that have never debuted yet.

The new extras look intriguing, esp the Tonight Show segment.

Dropping the commentaries that are already on the existing blu-ray and bumping them to the DVD so you can't enjoy HD imagery if you want to listen to them - come on!

God, MGM releases are a mess.

It would be fine with me if it was in service of a new transfer with so enormous a bit-rate that the commentary wouldn't fit, but short of that, it sucks a donkey.

Re: Raging Bull: 30th Anniversary Edition >> 1/11/11

I thought it meant that those extras would be the only ones on the DVD, not that they would only be on the DVD. Hopefully I'm right, otherwise, no way in hell I'm double-dipping.

Actually, I'm thinking Kory's explanation makes more sense, that the DVD would be Disc 1 of the 2-disc and therefore includes the commentaries -- but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

With MGM's releases, always assume the worst.

I just went through the extras on the existing disc and I'm satisfied that I learned enough about the film from those. I won't be upgrading.
