Re: Bambi: Diamond Edition - 3/1

I have read the thread, but I was merely responding to your last post. All of your talk about how $100 is nothing and everyone should own a region free Blu-ray player, that you buy what's available to you [at a premium] reeks of pretentiousness.

You ignore the fact that a lot of us have just relatively recently purchased Blu-ray players and are not exactly looking to purchase another anytime soon. I mean, I didn't get a second, region-free DVD player until years after my first DVD player and it was dirt cheap when I did get it, so I don't plan to get another Blu-ray player so soon after my first.

Not to mention, I'd much rather spend that $100 on new Blu-ray releases than another, arguably superfluous player. There's so much out there that I want and so much that I already have that I need to watch that I'm not exactly losing any sleep over what hasn't received an American Region A release yet.

---

Also, I don't like the Spanish on the cover of Dumbo or the ratings logos on most European releases. If avoiding the inconsistent language and those eyesores they call logos means I have to wait a little longer, then so be it. The releases you're talking about will probably still be available to import a few years from now, and at a lower cost; if we still haven't seen them released here yet, and if I'm so inclined, I can pick them up here. No hurry really, but if you're that impatient, then have at it. Unless it was my favorite movie of all time, I can wait, and even then, I can probably wait since I most likely already have a copy on DVD.

Got mine in the mail from Amazon today. No hideous ratings logos or foreign languages. :D

Picked it up, unfortunately no time to see it until the weekend...but should be a good time.

I've never seen it. Got it today from Amazon for the 12.99...we'll see how this works out.

Popped it in, as I always do with a new release, and it looks fabulous. And it sounds fine too :)

You should've imported it from the UK back in February. That way you could've watched it then instead of having to wait until this weekend.

I'm assuming the UK released didn't cost $12.99 though, did it?

For the impatient and for those who want to brag about having the release before others, money is no object.

I, for one, have no problem waiting if I know we'll eventually get a release here. Which is why I picked it up from Target today (had a gift card) and will wait for Dumbo.

It worked out well for me. 12.99 is a nice price for this. Now, the wait for the weekend will be a tough one.

But then it would have been right in the middle of my midterms! Any way you slice it, Bambi hits me during test time.

At no point did I say everyone should own a region free player. Nor did I say $100 is nothing. If you are gonna buy a player, do the research like I did and get a region free player for around the same price as a regular one. That's just smart. I waited a long until I bought my first BD player but when I did I made sure it was region free because there were a lot of titles i wanted to buy AND I needed to save up.

The lossy audio is an abomination and a step backward for the format. If Disney starts using lossy audio on future releases, they might as well move on to streaming their home video releases.

Was there ever any explanation offered as to why they chose to use lossy on this release?

There are so many great non R1 titles out there with no release dates in sight. You can wait all you want. I buy what is available to me.

Maybe you didn't say it word-for-word, but that was sort of the gist of your post.

I got my Blu-ray Player (a PlayStation 3) a few years ago for both gaming and Blu-rays. I'm satisfied with my purchase. Prices have gone down since then and you're right, you can find them for cheaper, but that doesn't mean those of us who bought Blu-ray players earlier didn't do the research or weren't smart about our purchases. I don't import that much on DVD as it is, so there wasn't a huge incentive to even look for a Region Free Blu-ray player at the time I got my PS3, now, or even in the near future. So yes, there are excuses for not having one.

But the point is, there's a difference between getting releases that are going to only be released in other Regions and getting stuff from other Regions that will eventually be released here because you are impatient.

You bought what was right for you and I bought what was right for me. Again, I was providing info from my experience to help others. If you don't need a region free player then don't buy one.

Buying imports is not about being impatient. It's about something that is not available elsewhere. There's no guarantee that even when that title does come out in the U.S. it'll have everything the import had. There are entire threads dedicated to this subject.

GUYS THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE to not have a region free Blu-ray player. Everyone needs to get with it. http://thesedayscontinue.org/images/...s/whatever.gif

Anyway, about to pop this disc in, very excited to re-visit it.

Hey just a heads up if anyone is actually intrested in having Bambi 2 on bluray at present time. The UK Bambi/Bambi II box set is actually region ABC
I know there is a us release for Bambi II comming to BD in the future, (with out a set date yet though) but thought some of you might be intrested in picking up the box set, considering Bambi II was actually one of the better produced DVD sequals
