+ 2. This is very disappointing and I hope it doesn't start a trend especially with Disney titles although GizmoDVD indicated that Tangled might be also be a lossy title.

Yeah, Gizmo are you just guessing or have you seen this somewhere?

Check out the back cover here on Amazon. It indicates DTS-HD MA. This isn't concrete confirmation by any means, but hopefully it'll calm people down for the time being.

One of the Pressers I got had indicated DTS-HR Audio for Tangeled as well. I didn't think much of it till I got Bambi and that actually had that HR Audio. I don't believe any site posted (word for word) Tangeled's full spec sheet, so they might have just gone with the defaults.

I doubt Disney would switch to HR for this release. Bambi must be a unique exception.

The back of Bambi from Amazon UK clearly shows the logos for:

Dolby Digital (5.1)
DTS Surround (DTS 5.1)
DTS Master Audio (DTS 7.1 HD)

I think someone else confirmed it was HR and not MA on another forum, even for the UK release. I could be wrong though.

Has anyone actually checked the audio on their system? Just because it says HR doesn't mean it is HR.

Which version do you have that says this?

Twice on the slip cover it says:
English 7.1 DTS-HD High Resolution Audio
That conflicts with the UK version that says Master Audio.

Since I have the US disc right in my hands and posted the picture up - yes, I have. Its HR. At least according to two BD players.

And on another forum I went to *shudder* that I won't name:

Got my bambi double pack today.

Disk was encoded with DTS-HD HR and so I emailed them asking if it was a mastering fault pointing out the lossy codec error and if there might be a replacement (hinting at a replacement program since it did list master audio and had a lossly track instead of lossless codecs).
So it listed MA, but had HR. Looks like even Tangeled might end up this way if it's an error on the artwork. I doubt it though, since it's a new release.

in regards to Tangled it appears the foreign language tracks are HR, the bluray has 7.1 (discrete) MA and 5.1 MA (similiar to the Toy Story 3 release)

Check the Blu-Ray bargains thread. It's been out for a while, now.

That one was taken down a couple days ago, but a new one has now replaced it. If he checked in the interim, he wouldn't have found anything.

yeah the coupon had expired, supposedly DMR might be putting online another coupon. Went the Barnes and Noble route, since they also have a 10 dollar off deal also.

Sorry. I didn't realize that until after I posted. Either way, I just took it that he knew nothing about a coupon (expired or not), so I was just pointing him to the correct forum. I'm glad it came back as I usually just wait until right before I buy a blu-ray before I print so I don't take the chance on losing the coupon.

So someone please explain, why would a company decide to go with audio HR instead of MA? Is it possible they went with HR because there were too many noise artifacts to be mastered in lossless?

I doubt that's it. DTS-HD High Resolution is perceptibly indistinguishable from lossless. If there were noise artifacts in the master, they'd be just as audible in an HR track as an MA track.

The complaints about this disc are more about the principle of the thing, not necessarily the actual quality.

As for why Disney chose to do this with this title, I can't fathom a legitimate reason.

the bluray.com review seems to indicate that Bambi 2 is getting a region A bluray release (quote from review below):

"Sneak Peeks (HD, 12 minutes): Rounding out the package are trailers for the 2011 theatrical release of Winnie the Pooh and the upcoming Blu-ray editions of Tangled, The Lion King, Spooky Buddies, Bambi 2, Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure and Tinker Bell and the Mysterious Winter Woods."

Oh I definitely know how that is, I've been wanting Dumbo for the longest time :( It's just nice to know there is a notion of an idea to maybe release it haha

Both the 7.1 remix and the original stereo soundtrack should be lossless on Bambi. The film is 70 minutes long and a majority of the bonus material is in standard definition. You could have both audio tracks in lossless at a bit rate of 10mbps and there would still be plenty of space available.

This X 1000

I don't know why anyone would wait when there are perfectly fine copies out there in other territories.

I have no desire to import unless it is a film that we'll never, ever get.
