Fox Home Entertainment have announced the US DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Machete on 4th January 2011. From director Robert Rodriguez (Grindhouse, Sin City), and featuring a cast including Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro and Jessica Alba, comes an action-packed, bare-knuckled fistful of carnage asada! Set up, double-crossed and left for dead, Machete (Trejo) is an ass-kicking ex-Federale who lays waste to anything that gets in his path. As he takes on hit men, vigilantes and a ruthless drug cartel, bullets fly, blades clash and the body count rises. Any way you slice it, vengeance has a new name--Machete.
Available on DVD ($29.98 SRP) and Blu-ray ($39.99 SRP), the only extras mentioned on the press release are deleted scenes (which is strange as you usually get a lot more on a Robert Rodriquez film). Expect English 5.1 audio (DTS-HD MA on BD) along with French and Spanish DD5.1 and English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles.

Come on, where's the Cooking School with guest chef Robert DeNiro?
I'm surprised Rodriguez isn't loading this thing down like all his other films.

I don't remember RR explicitly stating there was going to be an extended cut.
I remember him mentioning the BD was going to contain a slew of deleted scenes, such as subplots and character deaths that he deleted specifically to keep the film at a manageable running time and to have characters alive for the (hopeful) sequel. But I never heard him mentioning specifically that the deleted footage was going to be integrated into the film.

with such a high amount of gore, I thought Rodriquez might have had to cut some of the more extreme scenes to get the R-rating, but even as it plays out in the theatrical cut, the MPAA seemed rather lenient on what slipped by.

Got the DVD screener for review (which will probably be up tonight). Extras on the DVD include an audience reaction track, deleted scenes, and two trailers (green and redband). No commentary.

Yeah, maybe.
Having since finished the disc and submitted the review, the deleted scenes do NOT include any death scenes, so if the Blu-Ray and DVD contain the same extras, expect a double-dip.

Machete don't do extras. Machete does tea. And washes his hands.

One of the 3 extras includes Machete in HD! What a crock of shit! Did they not think that I was buying the BD to get the movie in HD in the first place?
