Good lord, I hate when a few comments on the internet make people generalize about every fan.

I own the 2011 SE BluRay, but I will be first in line for the OOT when its released along with my other friends who grew up with Star Wars. None of our childhoods were ruined, we just prefer the OOT version. ;)

I'm also a functioning adult whose childhood has not been ruined, but I'm just not interested in the blu releases as they currently exist, and still do not own them. If the OOT were to be released, I would buy them immediately.

George Lucas didn't rape my childhood but he did ruin Star Wars. I would get the UOT if released but if it never comes out I will survive. If I want to watch a fun action packed fantasy franchise I now have the Harry Potter and Hobbit/Lord Of The Rings films.

The 2011 set is a load of shit whether or not you care about the changes, but if you like them, that's fine. I don't care if you like them. I'm just as happy not watching them.

I also don't care if "most people" are no longer buying physical discs in 2015. How and why should that affect my interest in any potential OOT restoration? If your point is lack of demand will prevent any new BD release, then so what? I'll take a digital download of the originals over the 2011 versions any day. If the originals never get restored (and by the way, no matter what anyone says, at the very least the first film IS being restored) , then I'll happily move on with my life.

I don't think the 2011 set was a load of shit, just underwhelming (like the 2004 DVD set), and especially at that price. I waited till I found a used set, but it still seemed a poor value.

There's so many things they could do, but clips of parodies? The 501st documentary? Not wanting I'm wanting from a special edition.

The Complete set had sold 1.7 million copies by the end of 2013. 2+ years and that's it. I don't see much of a demand at the end of 2015 for these. While it would be a top seller, it will in no way be the cash cow some people have been claiming.

Just to clarify, my issues with the 2011 set for the most part begin and end with the digital tinkering. That alone made the set irrelevant to me. I know some people don't mind the changes, but they absolutely ruin the films for me.

That said, on a technical level, the BD transfers are really sub-par. Tons of detail is lost as a result of the crushed blacks and the automated noise reduction that was done. So much so that if you compare a 1080p capture from the BDs to one that has been downsampled to 720p, there's barely any perceptible difference. Add to that the fact that the colors are f'd up 5 ways from Sunday, and the films barely resemble their original versions. The disappointing extras are just the icing on the cake.

I think this can be attributed with the fact that this was another "special edition" set and not the OOT. It was well publicized that the set was going to be another tinkering fest and IMO the 1.7 million customers were die hard Star War completists and causal viewers, not cinephiles. That's another side of the market that would buy a OOT box set in a heart beat along with those other 2 groups. I skipped the 2011 set but would buy the OOT.

As sad as I am to say so, this probably isn't true. I think we sometimes overestimate just how many people there are that care about this stuff. I still think it would sell given an appropriate marketing campaign, but I'm not under some delusion that this would be the BEST SELLING HOME VIDEO RELEASE EVER!!! or anything. I don't know why it even matters.

That said, I wouldn't pay much notice to Gizmo. He has a hard on for BD sales numbers. He loves to remind us again and again and again and again that physical media is dying as if it's some big secret that only he's been made aware.

It would sell, but I personally doubt it would even approach the numbers of the previous release. The main people who would buy it would be the Star Wars completests and the OOT holdouts. Most causal fans who've already bought it wouldn't buy it again, and physical media sells less every year.

You only have to look at the insane prices for the DVDs with the non-anamorphic LD ports of the originals to know that there is a pent up demand for the original versions.

And again (regarding the Bluray box), the price is really high for a sub-par set. A reasonably priced set of just the holy trilogy, would move a good number of units.

Just for comparison, looking at the Amazon sales rates for the 9 disc set, and then the 1-3 and 4-6 Bluray sets:

9 disc - #308 in sales
1-3 set - #348 in sales
4-6 set - #225 in sales

And another thing regarding the economic feasibility of a remastered original versions set (I was scanning this forum and it jumped out at me) - Twin Peaks the Complete Mystery - all 20 some episodes scanned in high definition plus the movie and the deleted footage? Nothing against TP fans (I should really watch this show someday), but there's no way you can say there's enough Twin Peaks fans to make a set like this feasible but not enough SW fans to make remastering and releasing the originals feasible.

I don't get the "not feasible" people. If they were to release the exact same box set that is out now but put a bonus disc of nothing but the crew raking foot prints out of the sand so they could do another take from A New Home or Return Of The Jedi 90% of the fans would buy it all again.
