Not great, but not bad.

Re: Battle Royale (Arrow Releasing)--October 2010?

In terms of existing video based extras; if you accompany all of the extras from the two Japanese releases, one is left with slightly more than two hours of footage. If you're one of the lucky owners of the two-disc Tartan set (like myself), most of this material is on that disc and subtitled.

It's a guarantee that the theatrical and special version will be on separate discs. It's hard to have them together on one disc based upon all of the audio and visual changes made to the SV.

Now in terms of the extras, I'm hoping that third disc is a Blu-ray with the extras encoded in AVC. Don't make it a PAL or NTSC DVD, just put all the extras onto a BD-25 and encode the extras for a worldwide release.

All eyes are on Arrow right now and I'm sure they know that. Customers want it to be region free because most of us know this release will never see the light of day in North America and Arrow knows this will probably be their biggest seller on their hands with all the people who will import it; it's stupid not to release it region free (even if Toei tells them no). This is probably why Arrow has kept hush-hush on the release despite it being a month away now.

I honestly hope they tell Toei to go fuck themselves and release it region free. If it's region free, I'm more than fine with paying $25 for a Blu-ray release of both cuts. I don't even need the extras, I just want a quality release of the film at this point so I can finally replace my Tartan NTSC disc.

The third disc is almost guaranteed to be a DVD in PAL standard.

I lent my Tartan NTSC disc and my week old copy of Salo to a friend 2 years ago and lost touch with him, therefore losing my damned dvds. So if Criterion can hurry a Salo Blu out, I'll be very happy.

Based upon Arrow's previous releases, I feel that will be the case. I can still hope. :(

I just wish Toei would take the stick out of their ass and just give the title to someone who will do it right here in the states.

After that, they can mail me the original negatives of Battle Royale 2 and I'll proceed to use it as toilet paper.

We should get some details some time this week. I'm itching for news.

I have a similar story. I let my friend borrow my Tartan NTSC DVD. Less than a few weeks later, he moved to California with my DVD intact.

Ended up purchasing a second copy shortly after Tartan discontinued it, however, I ended up getting it for cheaper ($40) than what it goes for now.

Friend came back to Vegas a few weeks later with my DVD. Now I have two copies of it.

No word if the third disc is a BD or DVD yet, but Arrow has confirmed it'll be region free.

Cool! (but what this response really needs is some Solid Snake Pac colorful metaphors)

Awesome. I'm glad I pre-ordered. This will be the 4th and hopefully the last time I buy this. So, now I'm wondering what am I suppose to do with the DTS R3, NTSC R1, and Tin R2 I probably won't watch anymore.

I hate to ask this since I've already pre-ordered at Amazon.co.uk, but are the limited editions only available through Arrow? The Amazon listing shows "Special Edition" and the Arrow listing shows "Limited Edition". I'm thinking of moving my order just to be safe.

ETA: The cost for the pre-order on Arrow's site with shipping is coming up at 32.99 pounds, which is obviously considerably more than the Amazon listing. I'm beginning to think that we can only get the limited edition directly through Arrow.

Sweet! Preorder placed...and the price once I put it in my cart at Amazon went down a couple bucks at checkout to boot. This will be my first Blu (or DVD for that matter) that isn't from the US. From the sounds of it though, my Oppo should be able to handle the PAL conversion for the extras just fine. Even if it can't, I'm still stoked just to own the movie...much less in glorious HD!

If the set is nothing but three BDs, as long as Arrow encodes the extras in AVC, everyone is fine (which they've been doing on past Blu-ray releases). The issue becomes if that third disc is in fact a DVD; then it will be PAL.

Someone already posted the question on the Cult Labs forum, where Arrow responds to; so we will have to wait for the response.

I'd like to know the answer to this as well because I want the LE set. I followed the link for Amazon which claimed to be that set, but the price did seem low for such a limited item.

I asked on the Cult Labs forum, so hopefully we'll get an answer soon. I'm not that psyched about paying $50+ to get it, but I probably will if I have to.

Where are you seeing that unfortunate price?

Well sheesh even I had to pre-order it at that price. We'll see if I get come Nov.

Sorry about that. I should've quoted KillerCannibal's response to keep the train of thought straight.

Oh- sorry I missed it, too. I thought the Amazon listing is the Special Edition. Now I'm confused...
