They're technically impressive but terribly edited. That final desert chase has little to no context and quickly becomes a repetitive bore.

Any idea yet of what the final specs and special features are for this release? I find it odd that with just over two weeks till the release date there do not seem to be any details on this whatsoever.

Re: The Good The Bad And The Weird -- 8/17/10

Compare the UK vs the US BD:

UK:
-Running Fast - The Making Of (91 minutes)
-The Good The Bad The Weird The Vicious - Interviews (19 minutes)
-Analogue (Cinematography, Lighting, Action Sequences, Sound) (14 minutes)
-Space (Production Design, Costumes, Set Decoration) (11 minutes)
-Deleted Scenes (includes scenes from the Korean cut) (44 minutes)
-4 Alternate Endings (8 minutes)

US:
-Behind The Scenes (15 minutes)
-Making Of (part 1) (3 minutes)
-Making Of (part 2) (1 minute)
-4 interviews (10 minutes)
-Theatrical Trailer

WOW, that just sucks for Americans.... It really is a shame that Criterion couldn't release this from IFC. They would've gone the extensive route....)

It's the 130 min UK cut, the same as is on the UK BD. DVDEmpire also finally has shots of the back and front cover art up.

Despite being disappointed by the anemic special features, I'll still be getting this. It's not the full South Korean version but at least it's not one of the shorter cuts.

My local Best Buy had this on the shelf early, so I picked it up on Tuesday. They didn't have what I originally went to the store in stock and I didn't want it to be a wasted trip and had been wanting to see it for a while now and this was easier than importing it. I enjoyed it.

Great ... looking at the back cover art on DVDEmpire it doesn't say anything about 1080p or 1080i. Speaking of specs, it just says Dolby Digital 5.1 for the soundtrack ... is this a lossless soundtrack?

This sucks -- gimped special features and 1080i video. I was so looking forward to this too.

Yes, it has English subs. I got it for about $35 shipped.

Ouch. Pricey. But, regardless, where did you get it?

I don't recall how much I paid for the Korean bluray I bought, but it does have english subs - it also has a fantastic video and audio transfer - the image looks so ultravivd and the 7.1 (DTS-HD MA) sound is all out aggressive.

I think I got that one from YesAsia and used a $5 off coupon. However that was the limited digipak edition, which I believe is now out of print. The second print is in a regular Blu-Ray case and it might be a little cheaper.

Re: The Good The Bad And The Weird -- 8/17/10

Thanks, guys. I'll check YesAsia.

EDIT: Is this it? http://www.yesasia.com/global/the-go...0-en/info.html

EDIT #2:
Blu-ray Edition comes with the 129-minute International Cut of the film
Nevermind.

Re: The Good The Bad And The Weird -- 8/17/10

Ok, I picked this up for now, because the Canadian release (which is distributed by E1 but I am guessing should be the same as the US release) states on the back that the video is 1080p and the audio is Korean DTS-HD MA). Also, it has a nice foil gatefold slipcover and I have been holding onto a gift card for this.

I'll wait for an official review (come on, DVDBeaver) to state that this is indeed 1080i before deciding to open it or return it. Has anyone else who might have gotten this already watched it and can comment on it? Right now, all this forum, Bluray.com and AVSForum have to go on is this statement from one particular person.

EDIT: Other users on Bluray.com and AVSForum are reporting that the disc is 1080i as well. Oh well. I'm still waiting from a DVDTalk, HighDefDigest, Bluray.com, or DVDBeaver review to see what the official verdict is on the PQ.

Just a bit of warning about the Canadian version from E1 since I got (stuck with) it today. The only English subtitles are English SDH. Meaning the sound effects are also subtitled - so expect to be reading [women screams], [steam hisses], and the ever so prevalent [gun shot] along with the dialogue subtitles in the exact same font.

I find it extremely distracting and could only manage to watch about 20 minutes before turning it off in disgust even though this is one of my favourite films and have been waiting for this on Blu-ray for ages. I find it unwatchable in this state and have no plans to attempt a second viewing.

Oddly enough, the French subtitle track are standard subtitles. There is no French SDH track. Why they decided to do a English SDH only and a standard French only is beyond me.

It's a shame the Japanese Blu-ray is so expensive. Right now I'm considering trying to get the US version even if it is 1080i. At least I won't have to pay though the nose for it, and it will have correct subtitles so I'll be able to actually enjoy the movie.

Still quite expensive. I'm not looking forward to spending $40+ to import the Korean or $80+ for the Japanese when the Canadian one cost me $17 (as awful as the English subs are...).

Thanks, I read exactly this (about the SDH subtitles) on other sites as well. English SDH subs I can live with, if the E1 release has 1080p video ... does it?

Unfortunately I have no way of telling other than eyeballing it. My TV doesn't report the output and I don't think PS3 does either (unless I'm missing something). I'll see if I can check it out on one of my friends' TVs (they better setups than my basic stuff) and try to get an answer for you, but it won't be until the weekend at the soonest.

Where else did you see it had SDH subs? I've been looking everywhere and couldn't find anything on it.

That review also states "Subtitles: English SDH and Spanish". Doesn't the US version have standard English subs as well as the SDH English? The box image I found online made it look like it did.
