I am dissapointed that Anchor Bay is leaving off features from the DVDs. However, after some of their more recent releases (Girl Next Door, Behind the Mask) I am just happy we're getting some extras at all. |

I'll buy this release, but it's going to take a lot more to prompt me to buy another version down the line. |

I own both films (Book of the Dead editions) - I was just referencing High Fidelity. The slapstick vibe of ED II doesn't really do much for me anymore, so if I watched one of them again, it would be the original. If the BD gets to $9.99, I'll definitely double-dip.

Of course there are similarities, but I don't see the point of the reply when I simply stated that many consider II the better of the two.
Ratings/opinions seem pretty even on the two from my limited research of IMDB and RT, with perhaps a slight preference for the original, fwiw. |

Yes, but I merely stated an observation that many consider the sequel better. I did not even share my own opinion or reveal my preference for the sequel, which, despite some similarities, in my opinion, is not the same movie. I find it interesting that you chose to skip over the post right after mine and dissect my observation. I would hope that my point isn't considered less valid or dumbfounded because I'm new to the forum. That would be a shame.
First, my initial comment wasn't 'anti' your post at all. I was simply making an observation and your post seemed like a good starting point to get my point in the mix. Second, I don't even look at who I'm replying to when I quote a post. You could have been a mod or the site founder or an old post of my own for all I knew. Third, I don't think there was a post after your post when I first hit the quote button, which could have been hours before I eventually sent my reply. I'm a multi-tab user that opens and starts multiple posts. Fourth, 'dissect your observation'? Are you serious? It was a quick little opinion thrown into the mix, quoting a specific post just to add overall context, but not directed at you specifically. And even if it was directed at you, it wasn't negative in any way. |

Re: Evil Dead - August 31, 2010
Seriously Anchor Bay? They can't include all previous features from the Book of the Dead and Ultimate Edition? I will buy it because I love Evil Dead and am a sucker for Bruce Campbell commentaries but why aren't the Ladies of the Evil Dead Material,Bruce's Fan Documentary, and old Commentaries on this? Surely everything would be able to fit on 2 Blu-Ray discs? I guess next year there will be a 30th Anniversary Blu-Ray,its sad that has a very big possibility of being true :(

Re: Evil Dead - August 31, 2010
Specs from bluray.com:
The BD will include not one, but two new HD transfers (one in 1.85:1 and the other in the original, director-composed 1.33:1), personally supervised by Raimi, accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio track. Most of the bonus features, released on previous DVD editions, will once again be available on a special, limited edition DVD included with the Blu-ray. Special features include: * On the Blu-ray: o All-new audio commentary with writer/director Sam Raimi, producer Robert Tapert and star Bruce Campbell * On the special-features DVD: o One By One We Will Take You: The Untold Saga of The Evil Dead o The Evil Dead: Treasures from the Cutting Room Floor o The Ladies Of The Evil Dead Meet Bruce Campbell o Book of The Dead: The Other Pages o Discovering The Evil Dead o Unconventional o At The Drive-In |
Re: Evil Dead - August 31, 2010
Well, there is the new audio commentary. So it's not 100% recycled. But honestly, for the life of me, they have more to say? They've done like 2 commentaries already.

So I'm guessing that I should still hang on to my Elite disc?

In, but only because it'll have a 1.33:1 version. New commentary? Yawn...

Re: Evil Dead - August 31, 2010
Out of all the releases of the Evil Dead films I've bought only one of each copy which I still own. I have the Book of the Dead Edition Evil Dead, the Limited Tin for Evil Dead 2, and the numbered Director's cut for Army of Darkness. I may buy this one, but I still like all the editions I currently have- and I don't like having more than one copy of a movie if I can help it.

Since it dropped in price to $17.49 on Amazon, I went ahead and pre-ordered it. But the Special Features are on the included DVD? Fuck these studios are getting some cheap and lazy.

Re: Evil Dead - August 31, 2010
Because Blu-ray has 50GB Discs and 2GB of SD extras could certainly fit on it. It comes down to the studios being to cheap to spring for a BD50 (most likely this release is a BD25 - and they could still fit 2GB of extras on) or too lazy to re-encode with a menu. Might just cancel and wait till this hits $10. Tired of rewarding studios with sales for a lazy job.

Re: Evil Dead - August 31, 2010
I do really like not having to change discs to watch extras, but I don't really care if the extras come on a DVD, as long as that was the way it was on the DVD. For instance, Escape From New York would be just fine in my book if instead of the DVD that's in there (a super-old flipper with no extras), Disc 2 from the 2-disc Special Edition was in there, and the commentary was on the movie disc. However, I don't like scenarios like Road House where I get a Deluxe Edition DVD and a totally barebones Blu. I want to feel like the BD and DVD were designed to go to together.

BD has the commentary tracks (and both cuts of the film), and the second disc is the same DVD disc 2 from the DC release with the standard definition bonus features... Another example of the same situation would be Patton.... |

Did they? This disc doesn't, as far as I know, contain all the Ultimate extras. My understanding was that it was Disc 3 of the 3 disc set.
