Aren't they the same disc? Or no?

Well, I guess it is nice to have, but I have all of the available seasons of AF Presents, so I'm not terribly worried about it, I still made the right choice going with the Steelbook with booklet.

The US version is NOT the same as the imports. Just look at the dub and ub options. As for the episode, I assume the reviewer just overlooked it, possibly. It would be strange for Universal US to leave it off....

It's the same transfer though, right?

And you're saying the UK release has that special feature, but the U.S. release doesn't?

And now according to Blu-ray.com, another Hitchcock Classic coming to Blu-ray: The Birds. This is part of the 15 library releases coming from Universal.

God dammit. They sent it in a cardboard envelope and the spine is severed from the rest of the steelbook at the top due to a dent. And of course now they are OOS. Fuck.

OK, quick question. Do all UK blu ray movies play on US Playstation 3's, regardless of whether it's an old fat model or the newer, slim model?

As a whole, no. Some select companies opt against region coding any of their releases, such as Universal and Warner. Others let a few slip through the cracks, depending on rights issues and other factors.

OK, thanks. Is there a list of what companies are for and against it? Wondering how people know that UK's Psycho will play in US blu ray players...

as the last poster said, Universal and Warner releases are region free.

There's usually a thread here. You can also check specific titles here (color coded).

WHA?! Per DVDBeaver, the US BD is missing a number of extras and a little bit-rate.

I guess we're seeing Universal's new policy: 'Now, more unused space on every disc!'

The only missing extra(s) is the TV episode and the booklet:

According to the review, the difference in bit-rate is minor:

The DVDBeaver & Blu-Ray reviews also both confirm the original mono track is only DTS on the US version, where as it was lossless DTS HDMA on the UK version. I think that swings it.

Fine, but when they're chopping other content off of the disc, why are they lowering the bit-rate, too?

Can anyone tell me if the non-Steelbook UK edition contains all of the content (booklet, etc.) in the Steelbook version?

The Steelbook is the only edition with the booklet, all other content is identical to the regular UK edition.

My copy of psycho(along with Moulin Rouge) was shipped by Amazon yesterday saying it would arrive monday. Imagine my surprise when the Fed ex driver showed up with them today. Guess what i watched tonight :)

I ordered the Psycho Legacy from Amazon with a release date delivery guarantee (which has always worked out for me the past few weeks) so I'll be watching that on Tuesday. However the past few weeks Fed-Ex hasn't come until like 6pm or so, Tuesday is my day off and it would be nice to have that to watch right away when I get up, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

We premiered Psycho Legacy at work tonight, as part of screamfest 2010 (robert loggia was in the audience as well and took part in a Q&A) its decent enough but dont see it haveing any real replay value in the future for me.

Just a heads up, this can be had from BN.com for $14.xx shipped, including taxes. Even cheaper if your state has no sales tax. It's $16.19 on the site, and if you're a member, there's a 15% off coupon that's valid right now: J8V9L9U

If you're not a member, go to BN.com/Library to get an extra 10% off and free shipping. Not quite as cheap there, but still like $15.xx shipped after taxes.

I personally will wait for it to hit $10 methinks, but I figured I'd point it out.

If anybody takes this over to Blu-ray.com and posts it, tell them to suck it for banning me a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks! The cheapest this could possibly be in the near future would be $13.58 from Planet after cashbaq during the 25% off sale. It would be $15.40 from DD during the same sale, so this looks like the best route.

I didn't start this movie until late last night, so I'm only through 45 minutes, but it looks damn impressive. This is my favorite movie of all-time, so I've watched the dvd alot and this is a huge improvement. It does feel like a new movie seeing all the extra detail. I was also listening to the new 5.1 DTS mix. Dialogue sounded great.

During the scene where Marion just arrives at the motel and sees "mother" walking across the window looked excellent. With the increased resolution, you can actually sort of see that it's Norman. On the dvd, the lack of detail always made it seem like an out of focus shot.

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

It defaults to the original audio, but I actually like the then 5.1 mix better - mostly for it's greater clarity.

Spiderbite 10-20-10 02:37 PM

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

Anyone a little disappointed in the transfer? I watched this last night and I still noticed lots of scratches, nicks, whatever all throughout the movie. With it being the 50th anniversary edition and the first time of blu-ray, I guess I was expecting a crystal clean print.

It does look the best I have ever seen it but I still was a little disappointed in the final product. Were my expectations on the picture quality too high? The 5.1 sound, while quiet, did it's job and was fine.

Mr. Cinema 10-20-10 03:13 PM

Re: Psycho 50th Anniversary BD

Being a 50 year old film and made on a low budget, I'm not surprised there is still some print damage. I don't think it's to the point of distraction.
