Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
Well, it's playing at my fav theater a few miles away, so I'm seriously considering it. I was the perfect age for the sequels (9-10), but just a few yrs too young to see the first in theaters. This way I could say I've seen em all on the big screen.
Heh, I remember my parents telling me to pick BTTF at the video store when in came out, but I always looked at the box and was uninterested in it. Then I finally chose it and of course thought it was the greatest thing ever. |
Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
I'm going to wait until I see some official reviews, but BTTF is getting ripped pretty bad on AVS. It appears to be another case of DNR/EE. Looks like it "could" be another botched job by our friends at Universal. If true, that's $50 I can save.

Wasn't it supposedly approved by the main BTTF guy? (can't remember the name)

From what I can tell so far, Parts II&III got it the worst. The first movie supposedly doesn't look as bad as those. |

Screenshot comparison between the HDTV broadcast and Blu-ray
Looking at these screenshots, I think the BD looks better. Sharper looking with more detail. Bob Gale is the one who signed off on the transfers. IMHO, he made the right call. |
Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
Ugh, Universal strikes again. That's pretty ugly. Not Gladiator-ugly, but ugly nevertheless.

Blu looks good to me. The blu screen shot from the parking lot scene is pretty noticable now on blu, not like it wasnt before on dvd...

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
I'm struggling to see the problem here... there's more sharpness but I'm not seeing any halos... and I still see grain.

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
I'm pleased enough with the screen caps. Are they perfect? No. But its BTTF in HD.

Seriously, I don't see anything wrong. I think they look better and will still be buying it day 1

Yeah, and true about Knowles being immobile. I cringe thinking about going to AMC... I'm spoiled with Alamo Drafthouses' policy of "if you talk during the movie... we'll kick your ass out" and 18+ age policy. Last time I went to the AMC Barton Square (where the movie was showing) I wanted to KILL everyone in the theater. Talking, cell phones, kids running around. Don't have the worry about kids at the Alamo... they're not allowed! :) |

I'm still buying it, too. Some of you people complain about the dumbest shit.

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)
Looks...pretty good, but I do agree that some DNR has been applied. When I look at the comparison of that pic of Marty Gizmo spoilerized at doctorthodt's link, I really don't think it looks that bad. However, if you go to the same link and check the last comparison, which is Doc on the front of the train, DNR is clearly affecting the thread detail on his shirt.
But we'll see how I feel once I've seen them in motion. |
