Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)

I sold my BTTF Trilogy and Jurassic Park Trilogy digital copies for $6 each on eBay. I usually average $2-3 per movie (plus shipping, which usually nets another $1 or so for handling charges) for digital copies, although Disney animated movie digital copies usually go for more (sometimes as high as $7-8).

I'm actually interested in getting digital copies of BTTF. If anyone is thinking about selling theirs please just PM me and we can work something out =)

Probably as the poster above mentioned about $2-$3 per movie. Feel free to PM me and we can work something out.

Out of curiosity, the sports almanac that comes in the UK tin, does it actually have full sports results from 1950-2000?

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)

I don't remember if it had "full" sports listings, but I think there are some scores inside it from years beyond 2000 (like to 2004 or 2006).

I just checked the price of the tin on Amazon UK, that's a jump is $$.

I didn't jump on the tin like everyone else did. I considered getting it a few months ago but with how much they were going for on eBay, I decided against it. Believe it or not I don't need all that stuff that comes with it, regardless of what my username is. ;)

I'm still waiting for a good deal on the standard Blu-ray set. I've yet to get it.

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)

Well, BTTF was supposed to be the movie I bought a DVD player for...and the movies showed up 3 years after I bought a player.

This time it was the movie(s) I bought my Blu-Ray player for. I figure I might as well get this awesome tin with some extras.

But the movies look amazing on Blu-Ray. I watched the first test of the Delorean, and I was floored at how clear the movie is.

The Almanac has just snippets of scores, it's about 20 pages long.

I got mine for like $20 shipped on Target.com

That was a few months ago though.

As for the UK tin, I must admit looking at all the trinkets makes me drool with envy. Sadly, it cost way too much even when it was new.

It's been in the $50+ range for awhile now. Most stores are around that price.

I regret not picking it up a year ago when Target had it for $15.99.

It did cost way too much when it was new. I had one preordered and just ended up selling it a few months after it went OOP for over double what I paid retail for it. It was a nice set, but very expensive =(

The first Back to the Future is being released in the UK as a single disc release as part of the Universal 100th Anniversary collection. No word on whether or not it's coming to the states.

Japan is also getting individual releases of all 3 films in SteelBook packaging.

There is a list that shows all of the planned 100th anniversary releases (can't find the link at the moment), but the first BTTF is definitely one of them. (very few, if any sequels are on the list). Strangely, it seems the DVD versions of some of the 100th editions are already available....

:brickwl2: Watching these blu-rays again and on a whim I decided to play with the other languages on Part 2. The distorted music/audio in it is fine on the other language tracks. It's only screwed up on the english audio. How infuriating!!

I remember there being distortion in the alley at the beginning of the movie and later at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance, but that was on the DVDs from 2002. I didn't notice anything on the blu-rays.

The music distortion is still in the same spots as you mentioning from the DVDs. It just sounds like (to me anyway) that they turned the volume down on the music portion of the soundtrack to try and draw less attention to it.

Huh. I just watched part 2 and didn't notice anything.

Huey Lewis & The News had a distorted vision of music. Is that what you mean?

wahlers 11-09-12 06:00 AM

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)

It's less noticeable than before, but there are definitely several spots where the music distorts and sort of sounds like it's underwater.

When Marty first walks to the end of the alley and sees the future is one spot. Another is when Doc is watching Marty's son through the binoculars when they first arrive in the future. There's also another at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance when there's a pan across the floor and the horn sections sounds really bad.

I've played musical instruments most of my life so maybe I'm a bit more vulnerable to distorted music sounds, but it's definitely there. I went through all the spots and toggled back and forth between the french & spanish tracks and back to the English track and it's definitely not distorted on the other languages.

Unless there's some issue where my player could be processing the HD audio stream wrong and just coincidentally distorting the exact same pieces of music as the previous DVD, there's still a problem with the music mix that Universal doesn't want to deal with.

And it sounds like they're justified in their decision, since you're like one of three people in the world that would notice it.

Re: "Back To The Future" on Blu! (10-26-2010)

They were made aware of it with the previous DVDs and didn't fix it even on the replacement discs (I checked and made sure). But, since it's not screwed up on the foreign language tracks it seems like exactly the sort of thing that's not supposed to happen on blu-rays with "perfect picture and perfect audio", especially after making people wait a long time for them.

I realize I'm in the minority here, but there's is a problem and I'm not crazy.

I'm amazed at how many people in other forums and online are treating this like it's nothing to worry about when people have reemed studios over other issues that affect less running time than these three spots.

I've waded through tons of threads with people demanding replacements for colors being modified on Disney films (that no one would notice if they didn't do direct comparisons), sound drop-outs for a split second and framing issues (that actually resulted in more information on the sides of the image). All declaring "we must preserve the filmmaker's intentions!" -rolleyes- I'm sure the sound mixer on BTTF2 didn't intend for the audio to occasionally sound like someone's car radio eating a cassette tape.

In the end, does it stop my enjoyment of the film? No. Do I notice it every time I watch the film? Yes. Does it take me out of the film when I hear it? Yes.

Regardless, further discussion is pointless. The problem is there whether other people can hear it or not and whether or not anyone else cares. I'd be curious to see what some of the site reviewers think of the issue. If they can't hear the difference then they shouldn't be reviewing the audio portions of discs. It's definitely more noticeable than some of the issue they point out constantly.

If this happened on a Star Wars film though there would be 100 pages about it in the first 5 minutes and demands for replacements and George Lucas' head.

I hear ya. I'm still baffled by how few people apparently care about the obviously wrong pink tennis ball and pink toys on the BD of The Shining. Why aren't people up in arms? Why hasn't there been pressure to correct the problem and re-release it? It takes me out of the movie every time.

I'm surprised there wasn't more of a big deal made about that. Kubrick fans are usually more vocal about problems.
