It's a direct to DVD cartoon. It's not going to get that deep in 75 minutes.

I've yet to see it but...if they talked about Todd and then show a mysterious guy kicking ass...it's not hard to put the 2 together.

Saw the movie at Comic Con last week and enjoyed it. I wasn't sure I'd buy it but given it's $20 at Target this week, and this comment has convinced me to go and buy it today.

I also like how it linked to season 4 of Batman TAS, which featured Jason in the red and black costume.
The only difference being that Jason's costume was red and green, not black. Granted, it's a very dark green, but it is still green.

I never read the "Red Hood" issues or "Death In The Family" either, but the identity of "Red Hood" was discussed rather matter-of-factly in the featurette previewing the movie on the previous "Crisis On Two Earths" DVD/BR. Still, I enjoyed "Under The Red Hood" quite a bit.

Death in the Family was all kinds of awesome. It's a shame that wasn't made into an animated movie first.

How are the audio tracks on those? They're not too flat? I'd like the gunshots and explosions to have good bass or whatever's the appropriate term.

Was pleasently surprised by this. Ranks as one of the best efforts from DC/WB. Now to find the tpb and read the whole thing.

I thought this was quite good. Not as good as Mask of the Phantasm, but well put together and viciously brutal. I thought Bruce Greenwood got better towards the end. I'd like to see him give Batman another go.

Re: Batman: Under the Red Hood ---> Summer 2010

I've never been a huge superhero fan, but for some reason I've always enjoyed Batman. I grew up on the 90's animated series and it was nice to see a new film come close to capturing that tone. Under the Red Hood was better than I expected, but it was still far from perfect. The dialog was groan worthy at times and the voice acting was spotty. If this makes any sense, I felt like the film was geared towards adults but written for children. It explained everything that was happening like a bad James Bond villain and that kept taking me out of the film. I guess it was the missed opportunity that bothered me the most. This film had a very good chance to be great seeing as how all the pieces were right there. It's just a shame they had to dumb it down with all that cheesy exposition.

I actually enjoyed the Jonah Hex short the most. It was "adult" and very dark. The lack of dialog may have also added to my enjoyment.

I thought it was pretty good. Neil Patrick Harris made an awesome Nightwing, and Jensen Ackles was excellent as the Red Hood.

Re: Batman: Under the Red Hood ---> Summer 2010

I didn't like it. I agree with others that it was well done, but I just didn't enjoy it.

In some ways I feel like the story was comparable to Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.

The violence in the crowbar scene lacked emotion. It just seemed to be there for shock value alone.

The scene in Return of the Joker was more disturbing with less violence.

I did like how they improved upon the weakness in DEATH IN THE FAMILY.
The Joker, although sounding a little too common, was different from previous portrayals.

I don't see why anyone would waste their time on a Batman that isn't Kevin Conroy. Just doesn't make any sense.

Re: Batman: Under the Red Hood ---> Summer 2010

I watched this the other night and loved it. Very enjoyable, fast paced and had some decent humor as well. I know people get their panties in a wad when it isn't the same two people doing the Batman and Joker's voices but it didn't bother me at all. I especially liked the direction the new voice of the Joker went toward.

So you're saying that Val Kilmer and George Clooney were better than Michael Keaton ?

I didn't read that at all in his post... He's just saying that in terms of the voice talents, it's not that big of a deal to him. There's more to judge with the live action movies than there is with the animated films. Hell, if you saw Kevin Conroy, I guarantee you he could not play Batman yet he definitely has the voice for it.

In regards to Red Hood, I thought Bruce Greenwood did an alright job. Yeah, he's not as good as Conroy but I think it's fine to change it up once in a while especially since with these Superman/Batman animated movies they're doing, they seem to be sticking with Conroy for Batman and Tim Daly for Superman, so it's not like they're dropping him.
