Sony to Distribute Weinstein Titles on Blu-ray

Independent studio The Weinstein Company, which is in the middle of a restructuring process, has finalized a new home video distribution deal with the worldwide acquisitions unit of Sony Pictures, according to which TWC and Dimension titles will release through Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The Sony deal is envisioned as long-term, in batches of 9 to 10 films.

The first movies under this arrangement are Rob Marshall's Nine, A Single Man, The Road, Youth in Revolt, Halloween, Piranha 3-D, Nowhere Boy, Hoodwinked 2and Blue Valentine. However, note that not all of these titles will necessarily get a high-definition release.

Weinstein content used to be distributed by Genius Products, of which TWC was the majority shareholder. The home entertainment distribution operations of Genius were sold to Vivendi Entertainment in September 2009. Afterwards, Weinstein property has been released by different distributors: Quentin Tarantino Inglourious Basterds was released on DVD and Blu-ray by Universal, and Rob Zombie's Halloween II, by Sony.

In related news, Outlander (a TWC title released on DVD in 2009 with no accompanying Blu-ray edition) will finally hit Blu-ray Stateside on May 18, released by Vivendi.

I thought the movie was shot with 3D cameras - to not release this theatrically as such would be a giant step backwards.

Hoodwinked 2 is scheduled to come out in Singapore on March 4. I know that doesn't mean much but there's posters everywhere out here.

This. And since they presumably own the distribution rights, Suspiria as well, please.

I think they meant "Hoodwinked 2" will be distributed by Sony on Blu-Ray AFTER its theatrical release.

And I want Grindhouse too, dammit! I might have actually gone to the theater to see that if I knew it was going to be so hard to see at home!

Exactly as Hoodwinked 2 is now scheduled to be released in the USA on April 2nd.
but seeing as how the release date has moved twice since its orginal jan 15 date, its quite possible it will get pushed back again

From my understanding, Piranha 3-D was shot with with standard 2-D 35mm cameras and converted to 3-D after the fact. Modern 3-D movies are shot on digital video.

Alice in Wonderland is another new movie shot in 2-D and then converted to 3-D. Though that one was shot digitally.

Winner winner chicken dinner.

Piranha 3-D was shot in Aja's preferred Super 35 and rendered in 3D in post to keep costs down; which is stupid considering both My Bloody Valentine and the upcoming Saw VII cost under $20 million each and were shot using digital 3D cameras.

Alice was shot using a mix of Dalsa's Evolution camera (4K) and Panavision's Genesis (2K) camera. Funny considering Aja could've shot Piranha on the Genesis (which can emulate Super 35) and could've been more cost effective in both production and post.

Agreed, but at least if they don't Icon has it due on 5/17 in the UK. They have a decent track record for region-free too for those without Region B capability.
