Re: Things You Hate
The Criterion cases, while lovely, are as vulnerable to this as standard DVD cases.

Very good point, actually. The solution, obviously, is for Criterion to stop using those security stickers, since they don't make even a slight difference anyway.

"Those new eco-friendly Blu-ray cases. I mean, if we're going to be spending the money for a premium product, why should we be receiving packaging that lessen the protective casing around the thing -- and could possibly be prone to cover artwork hole punches? And THAT is what really grinds my gears. Tom?"

The ads selling us about Blu-Ray before the movie starts. Hello McFly! I'm watching a Blu-Ray disc already, I don't need to be told how great it is.

Re: Things You Hate
- Double dips are bad enough on DVD. On Blu-ray with the format being as young as it is, it's inane to me.
- Studios who do the double dip do nothing to improve the quality of the video on the new release, especially for a movie that didn't have a superb transfer from the start
- High prices on catalog titles (Akira comes to mind as a title I want but I'm not paying >$20 for a movie and the similar crap with casablanca/oz/gone with the wind).
- BD Live. Mostly worthless technology and I have no hope that anyone will be able to figure out a way to make a BD-Live feature that's tied to a given movie to be useful. The only utility I see with BD Live is creating apps that have nothing to do with a given title but give your player new features (like a netflix streaming app, maybe an app to connect to a studio's web portal... etc.)

I hate it when really hot actresses don't get naked on film. Mary Poppins would have have been so much better if Julie Andrews pulled her top off like in SOB
I hate it when the kids need me to pay the college tuition but then have movey to go out and buy a truck
I hate it that when I was single foreplay consisted of "what kind of beer do you want?" and now if I talk for hours about my day, maybe I'll get a little bit of something in a couple weeks.
I hate it when I'm jerkin the gerkin and the dog keeps staring at me.
I hated having a Blackberry and getting a crappy email.
Shouldn't this be in other?
And yes I do hate it when you accidentally hit the stop or off button on the player and you have to wait for the freakin thing to load all over again.

I hate that squarely maze-like looking security sticker thats so impossible to peel.

Re: Things You Hate
Oddly enough, a recent java BD I watched (Whip It maybe?) actually booted up with a "Do you want to resume where you left off?" question. Must be something new as I've never seen it before.

The fact that BD-Live is subject to the whims of separate studios, and not a universal log in for each owner. Somewhat understandable, but would be a ton better if I didn't have to register 5 different names.
Adding to that, the fact that these studios didn't plan out their BD-Live implementation properly at all.

Re: Things You Hate
extras not being ported over from loaded DVD special editions. I could understand barebone releases early in the life of DVD but on Blu-ray it makes me rageeeee.
I hate Warner discs going directly to the movie and having no main menu.

Oh also:
Those idiotic sound effects (especially the themed ones) for certain titles when you navigate the menus. Yes, I can turn some of them off, but why are they there in the first place?
Not porting over every extra as some people said.
I agree with the above post about Warner jumping into the movie, don't like that.

When a Blu-ray ports over all the relevant bonus features from the old DVD except for the trailers, which are arguably one of the best & most necessary features, for me at least. Then I have to keep the old DVD rather than getting rid of it and saving space.

There's a reason why main menu screens are a standard feature on DVDs and Blu-rays from other studios.

I hate the fact that Big Lots offers $3 DVDs so instead of getting Return to House on Haunted Hill and Spy Game on Blu-ray Disc, I just spent six bucks to get them on DVD and I was so ready to lose at least $30 for these on Blu dammit.

Also when i watch movies with my little brother or my girlfriend they usually need spanish subtitles activaded so i have to do that while the movie is already playing, same with selecting the loss less audio track.

I hate that after I click play, I have to sit through (or skip through) an FBI warning, some red screen with text on it, the french version of that red screen, a disclaimer about the commentaries and interviews contained within, the french version of that disclaimer, and sometimes additional things, before I can get to the goddamn movie.

Re: Things You Hate
No, it's horribly annoying. Especially on discs where you may need to make changes to the default audio or subtitle options. You should be able to take care of all that before the movie starts. On non-Java discs, you can't even pull up the pop-up menu when the movie is paused, so you have to let the movie play, change your settings, and then skip back to the start of the scene again. This is just a terrible design implementation.

Either way, it's not that I mind having to go to the menu, but I definitely prefer it to watching 15 trailers and 3 ads and 8 warning screens, like Kory says.
