Things You Hate
I love Blu-ray ; better pictures, more space for extras, cooler extras. But what I don't like is that not all blu-rays keep their place when you push stop or shut the player off. When they don't, you have to start the movie all over again which is a pain. Is it the disc or the player that doesn't keep it's place ? Is it because of all the complicated Java stuff on the disc ?

Re: Things You Hate
I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me here but I HATE the blue cases. The case design is fine, I just hate the blue color. Now I understand the reason for it being blue (not only because it's Blu Ray, but because it needed to be 'Different" from DVD and ofcourse HDDVD). But it clashes with artwork to much for my taste. I like the style cases Criterion is starting to use for their BR releases, if I can ever find a place that sells them I'll probably replace all my BR cases and make custom art for it.

I couldn't agree more. They look classy as hell and are just different enough to differentiate them between SD-DVDs.

Re: Things You Hate
I really wish all studios include a DVD copy with their Blu-Rays. I love showing movies to people and I hate being restricted when it comes to showing films I like when I buy a Blu-Ray. In a similar note, if a studio isn't going to include all of the DVD special features (which doesn't happen as often these days, thankfully), they should include a SD-DVD with the extras (mainly relevant when the Blu-Ray is a 1-disc with just the movie and maybe the commentaries, and the DVD is a 2-disc set; the 2nd "extras" disc should just be tossed in the case).
This is not limited to Blu-Ray, but I'm still annoyed when the movie's original theatrical trailer isn't included on many titles. There's at least the potential for it to be a space issue on a DVD, but on a Blu-Ray, they really ought to be there.
I don't like that not all Blu-Ray cases have the embossed silver logo, and some of them have a matte paint logo instead. It looks kind of cheap. Extremely nitpicky complaint, but one of these days I'll have to order some from a website and see if I get all of the embossed type, and if so, replace all my other cases. It's also a pain that Blu-Ray cases are apparently not as durable as DVD cases; I often inspect a case for dents and cracks before purchase only to find that it is cracked on the inside anyway.

Digital Copies on their own disc and PSP Digital Copies - period. The PSP copies make the package feel trivial, the "bonus disc with a digital copy" makes the package seem cheap (code + download location is good enough).

I dunno, I use my family as a litmus for these so called Average Joes, and even they understand the difference. I'm sure there's a good amount of people doing this still, but that number has got to be dropping. Maybe not significantly, but dropping nonetheless.

I also hate thos BD-Live loading a current preview from the internet screens. I was trying to watch Atonement and this 'feature' kept locking up & preventing me from even getting to the movie menu. BD Live has become nothing more than a nuisance at best, and a format deal breaker at worst (if I can't even get to the movie).

Things I hate: Digital Copy discs, bad cover art, BD Live, barebones releases, gimmicky shit like D-Box code, retailer exclusives and 1-disc and 2-disc SE BDs of the same movie (they're coming!!!).

Why does every single blu-ray (besides ones from Criterion) have to force a bunch of studio logos and warnings that you can't skip in order to get to the movie? If Criterion can skip this crap on movies they license, I don't understand why studios can't do it on movies they own.

- Blue cases or any cases with the Blu-ray banner at the top. Criterion has it right.
- Digital Copies advertised on the permanent packaging. The Watchmen Ultimate Edition is ruined because of it. Advertise it on the slip cover, but NOWHERE else please.
I made the same statement in the Criterion thread. I found the supplier, but I don't think they'll sell to regular people like us. That said, I'd willingly put in an order for ~200 of them, depending on the price.

I've never quite understood that.
