I'll pick this right up, I think I have some RZ dollars too. Armageddon and Tombstone I'm just going to put on my June birthday or fathers day list.

Blu-ray.com's review

Says it has reference grade video/audio, will absolutely purchase this first day.

My BB totally had this when I went in earlier this morning. And it was for the $19.99 price too, I almost thought it came out today, but it doesn't!

Well, it does mention a lip-synch issue in the Battle of Ramelle which I think is where the UK BD owners are also having problems. This is very disheartening.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

A post at AVS forum says it's in three scenes, and still noticeable when watched it on the PS3.

Also omeone over at Blu-Ray Forums posted this:
Just a quick note: Paramount UK have advised several forum members they'll receive replacements once the issue is rectified.

Awesome, another fuck up.

Why can't they ever find these issues before the product goes out? No one at Paramount could do a lip synch check? If Steven S. finds out the news, I'm sure he'll be a tad pissed off.

These do seem to be happening more and more. It's really a piss-poor reflection on the studios and their QC departments.

They should screen the HD master for a small group of fans before going to print with the initial run. It's the fans who catch things like this right away.

I think he would be too, considering this thing meant a lot to him to make. I kinda wish we got more comments from directors and them assuring us that they're righting wrongs on things like this.

Yes and No. We here in DVDtalk may catch it but the "average" fan of movies probably would miss a lot of things. I mean, we're cinephiles...we KNOW how stuff works for the most part. How bad is the issue? Like...totally obvious or obvious enough if you pay attention?

Still a day one purchase for me. I've already bought this movie 4 times what's another couple times.

Lip sync stuff drives me crazy. I'll hold off until it's fixed.

I'm totally holding off until that issue is fixed, if true. I can't stand that type of problem, no matter how minor it is. I did see the tag for it at Walmart today and it's priced at $24.xx.

If this disc is as good as the review says it is,I am picking this up. I have no problem paying an extra $3 or so. I will wait a few days though to hear from you guys that pick it up tomorrow and compare it to the SD version?

The 2 posted in this thread aren't enough? I would imagine most of the reviews will say the same thing about the excellent PQ/AQ.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

It seems the sync issue is more noticeable for some members, but not others. It may depend on your setup. On a modern day production like this, there is no excuse for a sync issue. I could see if it was a low budget 70s flick, but not a Steven Spielberg directed war movie.

No, as I don't trust reviews from a certain site that somehow magically uses a copyrighted and trademarked name for a 'fan' page. As I said on AVSForums, I don't consider reviews in Nintendo Power or Official Xbox Magazine either.

Perfect A/V scores... discussion further down about not noticing any audio issues.

Adam or Supr; did DVDTalk get review copies of this release in? Paramount can be pretty spotty sometimes with review copies and I know DVDBeaver gets their titles from retail.

Nice, thanks. Hopefully it's possible the audio sync is simply a bug with a player/receiver.

I hope so, but I'm not sure I want to find out. My copy arrives tomorrow. Since I have both a Sony player and receiver, you'd think I'd probably have no issue, assuming it's hardware related.

Here's a thread mainly discussing the UK disc. Some notice the sync issues, and some don't.

I'm not talking about 5 guys from a frat house, I'm talking about well-informed fans from sites like here, AVS, Blu-ray.com, et al.

To be fair, there are people on this site as well as the others ones who said they didn't hear the sync problems with Pandorum and A Nightmare on Elm Street and I heard both of those. So the fact that some people on the forums claim it's not there means nothing to me. There are a lot of dopes mixed in with people who actually know what they are talking about. If the response tomorrow is a resounding, "there's no sync problem" then I'll bite.

Yes.

Not sure if wanted to know more or what....but - both sound and picture are pretty damn nice. I also checked out the Battle of Ramelle sequence. No synch issues that I could see. Played it on my PS3 and Curtis Mathis players.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

This is going to sound odd, but the sound, especially during any battle sequences, seemed REALLY amped up. I mean there's some serious surround and bass action going on here. I'd wager to guess this may be a reason why there are synch issues, but that spot is not during any kind of battle sequence. I'm not complaining about the sound, it's pretty much reference quality, but damn it can get loud.

Does this have a rebate for previous owners like other recent Paramount re-releases?

JimRochester 05-04-10 04:33 PM

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th

No rebate form in mine.

Watched the opening sequence and the intensity and realism is amazing. I was practically in tears watching it. It is as far above the SD as the SD was above the VHS. Because it isn't for everyone it's not the perfect reference disc but it's definitely one of the finest quality I've seen or heard.

There is only one word to describe it: OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!!

Didn't notice any sync issues in the part they mentioned but I was just perusing

Reference quality A/V and Amazon dropping the price to $19.99... I am VERY pleased with this purchase!

Paramount didn't distribute the previous DVDs. Maybe that complicates the issue, or they just don't want to give you money for something you didn't buy from them.

Or, have they done rebates for other Dreamworks titles?

Amazon just dropped the price to $20. I hope the pre-order folks get the diff. refunded.
