Yeah, don't get me wrong, I have no problem with Jurassic Park, just prefer SPR. That said, its hard for me to get excited about any other Spielberg releases, as most are from Universal and will probably end up being flippers...
Spielberg is one of few directors who I collect all of their catalog. I really think he has never let me down with a stinker. |
Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
.....I guess I agree w/ that. I liked War of the Worlds...except that bit at the end. Otherwise...fun flick.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
Updated OP with specs/features.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
Both trailers in HD! Woohoo! Looks like I can get rid of my old DTS dvd.
|
Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
I'd pull out my DVD (the feature packed one) but what's new on the features side?
|
Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
the early candidate for Blu Ray of the year
lets hope the a/v is top notch |
Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
I saw some of this in HD on cable and it looked pretty impressive. I wonder if the boards will light up with complaints about the fires or flames getting streaky like the original release caused.

I like Spielberg in small doses, when he's serious: Jaws, Munich and when he's fun: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park Saving Private Ryan doesn't fall into the upper echelon of his films for me. Band of Brothers is like how Saving Private Ryan should have been. |
Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
I just found Hook poorly paced, produced (a real stunner with a Spielberg film, since usually he's miles ahead of everybody else) and I wanted to kill Julia Roberts.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
I will get this on day one. But the middle does have some problems (all I kept thinking was that Ted Danson saved their lives!) and the ending was abit "Hollywood".
I still go along with the CHUD podcast theory. They should have shot the mother! |

It's a classic adventure movie, but "serious?" |
Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
Goddamn...I don't even like this movie, but you'd think they would remove the floating heads. This isn't some new film that just came out of the theaters or some obscure flick that needs famous faces on the front to sell copies; most everyone knows what SPR is and who it stars.
Wasn't the original poster just the silhouette at the bottom? |
Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
There was one poster just like the cover art above, and then another one with the silhouette of the solider at the bottom. I think there was one poster like that but I could be wrong.
|
Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
Green Vulture: No, I don't think so. All the DVDs had pretty much that image. Also that's the only poster I've ever seen of SPR. The guy on the bottom and the cast on top. I think that poster art looks fine. I've known it no other way.

The advance poster for SPR:

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
After the god-awful new cover art they made for "Minority Report", I have absolutely no problem with the tastefully recycled SPR cover....
|
Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
Is that the official art on MR? I was hoping it was JUST a placeholder.
|
Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
I'm not a big fan of SPR, but people love it so I'm happy it's coming out. Hopefully this means A.I. may come out sometime in the near future.

Up until this week, that was the last time I tuned in for the Oscars. Proof positive you can buy yourself a little gold statue through marketing.

Shakespeare was on a whole other level anyway. Every commercial during primetime promoted how great it was and every newspaper movie ad section did the same at the time. I can't say the same for Hurt Locker. It definitely had the strong word of mouth buzz, but I don't recall much of the marketing hype for it. |

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
Finally a glowing endorsement. After the crappy reviews of Tombstone and the crappy job on the new Apollo 13 I was worried they'd screw the pooch

Did you see the screenshots for "The Longest Day"? Stunning. |
Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
One day I'll get that. Should've gotten it when Amazon had reasonably low prices. Now I have to wait again.
|
Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
It looks like this has everything from the WW II collection except Price for Peace which is available seperately. Is that correct?

Hmm... hopefully Amazon will match. They'll likely ship mine tomorrow or Monday, so if I want to cancel I have to decide soon.

Re: Saving Private Ryan --> May 4th
I was hoping IM2 would bring a sub- $20 price on the original IM BD. I still won't bite at $20.
