That is one. Any others? I guess you could say their overall record is good. So chances are good we'll get a worthwhile BD for Tombstone.

Almost a good thing. Doesn't sound like they called Russell. Maybe they're waiting for an anniversary to give it an all-new Blu treatment, with the DC.

Eh? I'd rather they do it right the first time, but all well. Probably not a dealbreaker for me, but slightly disappointed....at least it's reasonably priced.

Well, if the indication is that they're doing it wrong (not having the DC), better that they're doing it wrong in a non-definitive way. If we were getting, say, the DC but none of the extras, that would seem like a worse scenario to me.

You had me until your last 5 words.

I, for one, am not remotely happy that we're not getting the DC and most of the extras because it will ONLY be just under $20 on its release date.

They should get it right and still be able to deliver it to us for that price.

I'll buy this if everything from the DC DVD is ported over. I love this movie. The bar scene with Russell and Billy Bob owns.

Agreed.
Some many awesome scenes in this film. I would also add that the cast is great, so many names in it.

NO ONE says goddammit like Kurt.

Without all of the stuff from the DVD SE this just became a big pass.

I'm not at all happy this is happening, but to pass or not is still such a difficult decision.

I, personally, don't care what anyone says about upconverted dvds, I think a good HD transfer is simply in another stratosphere as a viewing experience.

I also don't really think they'll be re-visiting this title in many, many years if ever. Where is The Usual Suspects or ID4 or many other examples of crappy releases that still had great pic and audio quality.

I'd like to protest, but they have me by the balls. The DC is better, but I'd rather enjoy this very good movie in HD for many years than sit on my SD. It just sucks that they can't get this stuff right. It really knocks down my excitement about the format, because Tombstone was in my top 20 out of my 600+ dvds that I wanted in HD, they finally announce it, I initially am thrilled, and now knowing it almost certainly will be the theatrical cut with little in the way of extras is totally deflating.

Now if the PQ isn't at least a 4 (maybe 3.5), then I will pass and hope for a UK release that is better and region free.

This is my question, because I am STILL WAITING for the apparently completed special edition that MGM cooked up.

Re: Tombstone -- May 4th

Ok, being the one that's never fully seen the film. Was the DC ever released and was it a better film for it?

Cuz I totally assumed the SE was just the theatrical w/ the special features.

Re: Tombstone -- May 4th

DC additions:

Spoiler:

A "Vista Series" director's cut was released in February 2002. About nine minutes of never-before-seen footage were restored The most noticeable are:
a scene showing the depths of Mattie's addiction to laudanum and her jealousy over Josephine
a somber soliloquy by Doc quoting Kublai Khan;
a scene explaining Kate's sudden disapearance from the film, with Doc stressing the importance of friendship;
a scene with McMasters and the Cowboys meeting one last time. A small scene showing the graphic result of that meeting has been re-inserted with the line "They got McMasters!" being moved into this small insert.

Since I already got rid of my Vista series I don't have much choice. I definately will pick this up.

Re: Tombstone -- May 4th

if I buy the combo Amazon deal with 'Armageddon', will someone here buy Tombstone off of me (sorry, not much of a fan of the movie) for $16 - and hey I won't charge you postage and handling.

DC or GTFO. Looks like I'll probably be stuck with that damn digibook forever.

I could understand if it was a movie where the DC was substantially different, but there are only, what? Two minutes of footage added? You see Doc's drunk recitation and what happens to Kate; otherwise, it's not as though the theatrical cut radically compromises the story. And, please, don't tell me it's because the extended version is "true to the director's vision." George Cosmatos only had those extra scenes to shoot because Kevin Jarre wrote them into his script.

shit. I like the movie so much I decided to go with the preorder combo deal with Armageddon at Amazon. Now I'm beginning to question that. I think maybe I'll cancel Tombstone and just stick with the DC DVD.

I read that these are the theatrical versions and not the Unrated Director's Cut or Extended version.

Gone in 60 Seconds
Enemy of the State
Con-Air
Crimson Tide
