Evidently the master print of this was lost in a fire, I wonder how they handled this transfer? Did they go back and make a new master print from the neg or is it some old HD master from 2000? It would be nice if it were the directors cut as well as porting over the criterion extras! (Hey, they did it for the Rock)

I just want to know how it worked.

I thought this movie was so crappy on VHS, but then when I saw it on a wide screen DVD it became a real guilty pleasure for me. The audio was one of the first with a real aggressive surround track and it makes the movie.

Both this and Tombstone are mine for sure however with my birthday and father's day coming in June I may have to wait

Count me in the group that owned both this and Tombstone on VHS and then DVD. Hopefully the prices for these blues will drop closer to release day.

The Digital Bits is reporting that Armageddon does not contain any of the Criterion extras. :thmbsdwn:

They can secure most of the extras for The Rock BD, but not Armageddon? I could care less about the additional scene implemented into the Director's Cut, but this just feels more lazy than anything else.

I believe the Rock Blu-Ray actually has every single one of the CC extras. Which makes this news doubly disappointing.

Yeah it would be nice to have the bonus features, but just having the movie on blu is good enough for me!

Shit, you're right. Let me rephrase myself.

The Rock BD has all the extras from The Rock Criterion DVD but both the BD and DVD lack some of the extras from the Criterion LD (such as the Michael Bay directed shorts/commercials).

I've anticipated this release for so long just because there was never an anamorphic release on DVD ... and I don't even like the movie that much.

Actually, The Rock Blu-ray Disc is missing the Criteiron DVD's "Stills Archive" which has over 200 production stills, storyboards, and production design drawings.

There were a few extra scenes, such as Bruce Willis' character with his father.

The only thing I will be really upset about losing is the gag reel. The Criterion version had one of the best gag reels ever, and I hope they find a way to get that on this version.

^ but even the Affleck/Willis commentary is a hoot too. The Criterion dvd has three (!) commentary tracks.

No, he means delayed...someone "in the know" who posts over at blu-ray.com just today posted that it is being delayed and no new date has yet been rescheduled....
Sadly, this is becoming par for the course with a lot of Disney titles this year...

well digitial bits said today that it is indeed comming on the 27th of April. so it looks like the bluray.com source might not be correct. cross fingers that their source is anyways as bill hunt can sometimes be wrong.

What is hilarious is that the "blu-ray.com source" I mentioned that first said it was being delayed is actually a guy (Jeff Kleist) who works on/with The Digital Bits and he posted the news that it had been delayed in The Digital Bits' own "insider" thread over there! I guess the right hand doesn't always talk to the left at their site all the time....

Honestly, you can't really blame Jeff or TDB since Disney continues to change it plans/minds every single day. One day it's on the schedule, the next it's off. Whenever they announce anything, just hold onto to the DVD until you actually see a physical Blu-ray copy. Hell, you want Dumbo? Import from Mexico! Remember Grey's Anatomy? Yeah, Season 5 came out in Mexico! Let's not even forget all the Alliance titles (who probably released more exclusive BD content in 2009 over Disney)

So, is the BD the Criterion extended cut or not? Amazon has the BD, original 1999 dvd and Criterion all listed as having the same runtime.
