Extras are on the light side.
From blu-ray.com: Armageddon and Tombstone Blu-ray Detailed

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has officially announced and detailed the Blu-ray releases of two catalog titles from its Touchstone library: the Michael Bay scifi/action movie Armageddon and the western Tombstone, which, as previously reported (see blu-ray.com, January 31), will hit store shelves on April 27.

Special features are as follows:

Armageddon:

* Music video: "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing", Aerosmith
* Teasers and trailers

Tombstone:

* The Making of Tombstone featurette in three parts:
o An Ensemble Cast
o Making an Authentic Western
o The Gunfight at the OK Corral
* Director's original storyboards
* Theatrical trailers, teasers and TV spots

I was just about to post that. Pretty pathetic extras on both releases.

I had hoped Armageddon would get all the Criterion extras ported a'la The Rock. I expected more for Tombstone as well.

Thank you Disney for the great extras! :rolleyes:

Bummer for the extras, has it been confirmed if it's the extended version for Armageddon?

Re: Armageddon May 4th!

Hopefully they will be $10 or less at Walmart, otherwise I can wait on these almost pathetic releases.

I'm honestly not sure if you are being sarcastic or serious....but a gun would not work in space because it is lacking the proper atmospheric conditions (namely oxygen) for the controlled explosion required to propel the bullet....

Same reason a fire cannot burn out in space....no oxygen to fuel it...

Yes, I am being serious. Unless your gun uses a wick or something, you don't need oxygen. The cartridge contains everything you need.

21 dollars for a bluray that has two extras - HAH! ... that sucks.

Shows what I know (never having owned or even fired a gun before)... :doh:

I always assumed they needed oxygen for their explosions just like a fire does....anyway, this interested me so I found an answer that should quiet this debate:

Disappointed with the lack of extras, but if it's cheap enough on release day I'll get it for sure. I'll just keep my Criterion DVD.

It's good to see that they got the transfer right. It's really *mind-boggling* to me that this title never got a proper DVD release! You'd think it was the "Original" Original Star Wars Trilogy or something ...

Could anyone quickly summarize the differences between this cut and the Criterion "Exclusive Director's Cut"? The runtime difference is about 2 minutes, I believe.

I think the Criterion version was quite good!

You mean aside from being non-anamorphic.

JimRochester 04-17-10 11:32 AM

Re: Armageddon May 4th!

He seemed a little less "whelmed", meaning he was not over-whelmed with the quality, just whelmed with it. ;) The shots did look a little soft but since the prior version were non-anamorphic the purchase is a no brainer until a better remastered SE comes along. I saw several of the extras from the Criterion before I got rid of it so I don't need any extras however I did hear the cast commentary was pretty funny.

Looks good to me, and obviously a major improvement over the previous non-anamorphic releases....I'd have preferred to get the director's cut, but I'll still pick this one up for the time being and continue to hold onto the Criterion DVD release for the extras....

Re: Armageddon May 4th!

even with lossy sound the DTS laserdisc features an amazing extremely aggressive soundmix, if the Bluray can mirror/supercede it, I'll be surprised.

no slipcase for this or Tombstone. Costco had them out early today. All the artwork covers I saw for Armageddon were either torn at the top or they were wrinkled. I hope my copy from Amazon arrives with a good cover.
