Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street ----> 4/6/10
I went into Best Buy before work yesterday and was lucky that they had a few copies.

The scene itself or the bad special effect?
I remember seeing that scene in the commercial when the movie first came out and it freaked the hell out of me. I haven't watched the disc yet but i'm looking forward to it. I'm glad it has the movie cash for the remake so i'll only be out 2 hours of my life if it sucks. |
Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street ----> 4/6/10
Just picked this up from BB. Really bummed since Target is litterally right next to BB and they were selling it for 20 bucks and didn't have a single copy. Also when I asked about they didn't know what the hell I was talking about. So, I was stuck paying 27 bucks for this.

I went to Target and didn't see a single copy today. They might have had some, but there was no one around to help me, so I just walked out.

Wow, I've been commenting on this thread for quite a while now and just realized I started this thread back in January! ;)

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street ----> 4/6/10
Received my copy today from amazon canada !!!I didnt expect to get it this early, considering im in greece.Amazon usa usually takes 5-10 days, so props to canada ,lol. When I ordered it on Monday there were 2 options on the site.1 with the french lettering on the cover and 1 with the english lettering.I watched just a little, never expected the movie too look this good on blu ray.Its still going to be a pain in the butt, to watch those focus points. If its anything like the infinifilm, its going to take over 3 hours to get through that.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street ----> 4/6/10
Every Best Buy I've been in has only had 1 or 2 copies on the shelf. I hope WB isn't angry if sales are low considering so few copies appear to even be carried in stores.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street ----> 4/6/10
FYI, the Nightmare BD is $17.88 @ Sams Club...includes the Movie Cash for the remake.
I'm hesitant to pick it up for 2 reasons...the audio sync issues, and I'm wondering if it will be on sale next week somewhere. |
Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street ----> 4/6/10
I just decided to order it off of Amazon. Hope it still has the movie cash.

the audio sync glitch probably isn't helping sales.
I'm still not convinced it's a glitch at all. There's no question that some of the dialogue doesn't match up with lip movements, but it struck me more as crappy ADR work rather than some sort of mastering error with this Blu-ray disc. (The scene where it seemed the worst to me was with Nancy on the street when the cops are chasing down Tina's boyfriend...stands to reason that something like that might have to be re-recorded later, and they probably just didn't do that great a job on it.) One of the guys on AVS complaining about the movie being out of sync backed off and said it only happened on his Oppo when he tried changing soundtracks mid-movie. |

Honestly, that's doubtful. Most of the forums I read have long threads about this disc, and sync issues barely even seem to be a blip on that radar. If the most enthusiastic fans aren't noticing/don't care, I doubt that would have a material impact at all.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street ----> 4/6/10
With out a doubt it's a glitch. My mono track and original DVD sync up perfectly, but the audio work for the surround channel is shot, especially evident in the jail and classroom scene. Shame because the transfer looks so good. Hope Warner will offer some kind of replacement here. Oh and Amazon did indeed have MovieMoney with mine.

What audio glitch?

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street ----> 4/6/10
I'm surprised that this release hasn't been promoted more. We got two copies at my store, and only because I pre-ordered a copy for myself. We sold both copies the day of release, and had more people coming in asking for it afterwards.
It's kinda like when Universal finally put out Phantasm II. |
Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street ----> 4/6/10
FYI...I was in Walmart this morning and they had the blu down to $15.00 flat, on a large cardboard display of "Cool Summer Movies" that were all $15 and $10. This display was new, as far as I could tell. Also had Casino and several other blu included with a bunch of different newish dvd releases.
I bit on it..I'm going to see the new movie anyways, and the $7.50 pass is worth it. As with any Walmart price, YMMV. |

That's highly doubtful. WB has completely ignored the obviously incorrect coloring on the Shining BD, which should have been corrected with replacements offered.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street ----> 4/6/10
Alright, I watched the Blu last night, on my PS3 80gb phatty, and I looked several times for any sync issues and couldn't find a single one. Now, there are parts where the dialogue is clearly overdubbed, but that was always there in ANoES. There was nothing to me that was clearly out of sync.
I did, most definitely, notice the missing music from Depp's headphones...but the film looks so damn nice and crisp and clean that I'm not sure I care. |
Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street ----> 4/6/10
Was the original track in mono and the surround sound was created for home release from that track? I'm wondering with all the errors mentioned whether to just watch it in mono and kick in Dolby IIx if I want any surround.

EDIT: Just finished watching the entire thing, and while yes, the ADR and overdubbing can be dreadful throughout (as is to be tolerated with a movie of this budget), the jail scene with Rod and the body bag classroom scene are not even close. The sound and the mouths moving are about two seconds off and the effect is highly distracting. Other than that, it's fine. Just aggravating that two scenes mar the experience. But hot damn does it look good for its age. |
Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street ----> 4/6/10
Has anyone ever used Movie Cash for a midnight showing? The reason I ask is because I don't know if theaters will take it since you're technically using it BEFORE the movie comes out.
