The Slumber Party Massacre Collection is down to $18.49 (was $22.99) on Amazon for those of you who may care.

well, that is weird because Piranha is actually listed as "Coming Soon" for in-store pickup while the others are listed as "Not Available".

For future reference, any DVD Beaver review of a film containing nudity will itself contain nudity.

I enjoyed both of them, but Galaxy of Terror has superior sets and at least a semblance of a plot, plus a naked blonde being ravished by a giant, lustful maggot. The cast is a bit more interesting than Forbidden World, with Sid Haig and Joanie from Happy Days, but Forbidden World has the superior eye candy, and a higher sleaze quotient. You really can't go wrong with either one though.

I hate to say it, as she didn't perform badly at all, but I had a hard time watching her...I kept expecting Chachi to come out with a sleeveless T-shirt. She is just so "Joanie Cunningham" to me. My own hang up to be sure. Still.

"It is frequently paired with and compared to the previous year's Corman-produced Alien rip-off Galaxy of Terror, with which Forbidden World shares some of the same sets (designed by James Cameron)."

It is a pity that PIRANHA is only 16 GB and encoded at a somewhat low bitrate of 19 MBit/sec. It looks like that they did just enough to barely get by. Adding more bitrate may have helped get this title looking quite stellar. All the same, I probably will buy it any way to give support to the company so that they might release more of our beloved catalog titles in HD.

These type of movies barely even sell (break even?) so it's not all that shocking. It's either this...or stick with the DVD. Blu-ray just didn't catch on like the studios had hoped and people are not re-buying the movies they already own on DVD. Its this or nothing.

You've repeated this tidbit of information in various threads.

Yeah he does that. , just ignore him and he tends to pipe down. I've upgraded plenty of my movies, so I guess I'm not a person per his analysis.

Just because Blu-Ray hasn't lived up to the potential that studios want (which I kinda disagree with, but that's another thread all together), doesn't mean we should settle though. If there is potential to encode a movie even as simple as this one, they should go ahead and try to give the blu-ray all they can. People would be a lot more accepting for the format (and not simply sticking with their dvd) and would consider upgrading. You see this a lot in foreign martial art films as well.

I believe all of their releases have been BD25s.

Sid Haig vs. his arm! Sid Haig's unrelenting rage over his "Christmas ornaments"! Sid Haig, quiet, strong and philosophical! Classic silly, low budget slice of B with a decent wrap up (conceptually), a recognizable cast, some truly funny moments and a view into Cameron's early set work. 3.5/5.0

Forbidden Planet (theatrical cut) - sleazy, wet, peppered with some nice effects and surprisingly, a rather effectively built up sense of tension. Not to say the plots are all fully realized, or the set designs seem familiar (or the opening spaceship salvo), or the "hook ups" make a any sense - but I thought the work in the script and my interest in the story development gives the edge to Forbidden Planet. More serious of the two but it's still a blast. 4.0/5.0

Now I just wish Shout! picked up Inseminoid to complete the "trilogy" ...

On the commentary track, which is really lively and often hilarious, they claim Haig requested that most of his lines be dropped after reading the script.
