Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread
I had completely forgotten that Timecop's distribution rights moved to WB years ago. It was originally distributed by Universal along with Sudden Death and Hard Target.
and Kino Lorber has said in the past they don't do business with WB. Hence, it's here with Shout. |
Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread
I don't think it is with WB for home media anymore. Largo Entertainment was the production company and Shout seems to have titles from the library as they've been putting out their titles (Unlawful Entry, Dr. Giggles, The Getaway, etc.).

Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread
They also have a Corman double feature Blu of CAGED HEAT and JACKSON COUNTY JAIL (previously on DVD) but tapping it brings up a prompt to join their ‘Physical Forever Club’, which is free, and apparently free forever. Not sure what difference it makes to them when they’re not charging for it, though, but I guess certain pre-orders, other deals, and points (something that would’ve been nice to have before I forked over for major portions of their catalog) will be behind a wall without it.

They're releasing Stephen Chow's A Chinese Odyssey Part 1 - Pandora's Box (1995) and A Chinese Odyssey Part 2 - Cinderella (1995) on blu as a set early next month. Well worth picking up if you like fantasy movies with hearty dollops of comedy and action.

I rarely shop for Shout titles. I’d like to get Timecop, but I know the price will likely be in the high 20ish range pushing $30.
Hell, the regular BD of the Chuck Norris movie Forced Vengeance is almost $30 still. And I’d like to get that title, but not at that price. At least Kino Lorber prices their stock more competitive a few times a year. |

Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread
In a major digital restoration initiative, Shout! Studios is bringing five seminal Jet Li martial arts classics to 4K resolution, marking a significant moment for fans of Hong Kong action cinema. The legendary martial artist’s collaborations with directors Gordon Chan, Woo-Ping Yuen and Corey Yuen will debut on digital platforms Feb. 18. The collection includes “Fist of Legend” (1994), “Tai Chi Master” (1993), “The Legend” (1993), “The Legend 2” (1993), and “The Bodyguard from Beijing” (1994), representing a golden era of Hong Kong action filmmaking that helped establish Li as an international star. The films showcase Li at the height of his powers, from his portrayal of Chinese folk hero Fong Sai-Yuk in “The Legend” series to his role as a conflicted martial artist in “Fist of Legend.” “Tai Chi Master,” which pairs Li with Michelle Yeoh, demonstrates the actor’s range in a story of betrayal and redemption centered around the ancient martial art. In “The Bodyguard from Beijing,” Li steps into more contemporary territory as an elite security professional, blending intense martial arts action with a modern crime thriller narrative while protecting a murder witness played by Christy Chung. Under the comprehensive distribution agreement, Shout! Studios has secured worldwide rights, excluding China, U.K., and Indonesia. The deal encompasses physical media, electronic sell-through (EST), advertising-based video on demand (AVOD), subscription video on demand (SVOD), transactional video on demand (TVOD), free video on demand (FVOD), linear streaming, broadcast, theatrical, non-theatrical, and ancillary rights. The films will be available individually and as a digital bundle exclusively on Apple TV and Fandango at Home, marking the first time these titles have been packaged together. Popular on Variety “Movie fans can now easily enjoy these entertaining films in stunning 4K on various digital platforms,” Li said in a statement. “I hope a new generation of audiences will be introduced to these action classics that give a glimpse to the talent of directors, writers, actors, stunt people, and crew that come from the rich history of Hong Kong cinema.” The move follows Shout! Studios nabbing worldwide rights (excluding select Asian territories) to the coveted Golden Princess movie library, a treasure trove of 156 Hong Kong cinema classics that’s been MIA from Western markets for decades. |
Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread
I see physical media is included in the list of formats/platforms, so that’s cool. Well, as long as they include Blu-rays in potential 4K combo packs for luddites like me. Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if these get released as a Jet Li boxed set, which I can live with as I think I’ve already got singles for some of them, or maybe all of them (it’s getting hard to keep track any more!).
Seeing Michelle Yeoh’s name in that news release reminds me of how comparatively underrepresented her HK filmography is by the western boutiques. I know we have her two LINE OF DUTY movies, MAGNIFICENT WARRIORS, maybe a couple of others I’m blanking on (?), but there’s a bunch that must surely be in the pipeline at this point. Fingers crossed. |
Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread
Supercop, the Heroic Trio / Executioners double feature, and Tai Chi Master (that last one also being a part of this deal) are some other ones on BD (and mostly UHD too) in the US, and Eureka and 88 have a few other Yeoh titles in the UK.

THE OWL VS BUMBO (84; her first film) EASY MONEY (87) BUTTERFLY & SWORD (93) HOLY WEAPON (93) PROJECT S (93) WING CHUN (94) WONDER SEVEN (94) AH KAM (96) and, to a much lesser extent: THE TOUCH (02) SILVER HAWK (04) PROJECT S is probably high on many lists but I wonder if there are still rights issues associated with the the American distributor (even though I believe he’s still in prison)? As mentioned, I’m sure these are all known to various companies, so hopefully it’s just a matter of time. Trailers (spoilered because I’ve probably posted them all before): Spoiler:

Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread
Shout has a going-out-of-print-soon sale underway, and I’m a little surprised to see The Brave Archer Collection on there in less than two years. If you’re part of their free Physical Media Forever called, these titles will be 40% starting tomorrow morning.

Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread
Telling Lies in America is on that OOP list.
I wish it was just that movie and not Traveler added to it. |
Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread
I actually own the Poison Ivy BD collection from that list. I got it years ago. The 1st movie with Drew Barrymore was actually a theatrical release and the rest were just in name only DTV movies. I think one of them may have referenced the original movie once.
I would not call any of them "good" movies. It's basically 1990s Cinemax style movies that you would probably see on a Friday night at 11pm. I have JFK on DVD. It's not the kind of movie that has a lot of replay value, let alone getting an expensive 4K set. |

its also the same price on deep discount when one applies those 15%off coupons that DD routinely gives out. |
Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread
Yes, the JFK set has the theatrical cut, but it's hd only.
Either way, JFK rules. I rewatch it often. |
Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread
I put the Brave Archer set and the Battle Beyond the Stars and Slapshot steelbooks in my cart, but when I went to check out got a "one of your items is out of stock" message and it wouldn't tell me which item it was. I removed the Slapshot steelbook and it let me check out, which was a relief cause I was only placing an order because of the Brave Archer set and I was afraid that would be the one that was unavailable.
|
Re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread
Kinda weird for me. I only see the discount in my cart (presumably as a ‘forever whatever’ member). When skimming the listings, they show what I assume are sale prices that aren’t really that spectacular for stuff they’re trying to get rid of. The fact that BRAVE ARCHER is still available even now (I did buy it previously but toying with a second one for resale) makes me think the Shaw sets must be reasonably slow sellers, albeit in quantities that justified two new boxes recently. Sometimes I like to check out the newer indie horror films that Shout releases but many of them in this sale have been $5 or $6 at Hamilton Book on occasion (Big Lots used to get a lot of them too; I wonder another outlet will pick up the slack).
