I saw both of them back in the 80s on VHS. They are super low budget and all the actors are dubbed, including Lou.

Both of those movies were originally made for the Italian market from what I understand.

Unlikely you will be able to rent them.

The Hercules movies aren't very good and only getting a release because Lou Ferrigno has some name recognition.

Just got a Shout email announcing limited edition Steelbooks for three John Carpenter films reissuing August 1: THEY LIVE, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and THE FOG. Limited to 10,000 each, which seems rather generous, but then again I can't speak as a collector here.

THEY LIVE

THE FOG

It's hard to believe (even for us), but Scream Factory is now five years old ... and what a ride it has been! Our gratitude and thanks go out to every one of you who has supported our releases and continues to do so.

To celebrate this milestone, we're releasing three of John Carpenter's masterpieces -- They Live, The Fog and Escape From New York -- in limited edition Steelbook packaging. Only 10,000 of each are being produced, and once they're gone, they're gone!

The official release date for the Steelbook editions of They Live, The Fog and Escape From New York is August 1st, but you can pre-order starting today. Plus if you order directly from our site, you'll get two weeks early shipping and your packaging will also include a 28.5” x 16.5” rolled lithograph of the illustration (conceived and designed by artist Nathaniel Marsh), while supplies last.

*beep beep beep* ME! Three of my favorite movies getting steelbook (and Fog/EFNY are in my top 5) treatment. And of course...I already own all 3 in the Shout Edition. *beep* What I might do is just order the EFNY one for the poster (and then of course I have to get a frame) and see what happens with the other two. But crap, these are gorgeous.

Speaking from a collector's point of view, They Live will NOT sell out anytime soon. EFNY will eventually sell out, and Fog I'm very iffy on. So I'm going with my gut, my #1 movie and pre-order EFNY. We'll see what happens with the other two but I don't need posters with those so I'm not pre-ordering them.

Edit:$5.99 to ship one, $6.99 to ship two...

What's funny about those steenbok covers is that they all have 3rd act spoilers on them.

These are going to be sold elsewhere. You just won't get the lithograph. I'm waiting for the amazon listing.

As far as selling out, I seriously doubt they'll sell out quickly. More than likely they will have a fire sale in a year. 10000 is a big number for titles that have already been released.

I'm hoping they do sell well though because I'd like to see more Steelbook releases.

Why do so few steelbook listings ever show the inside art? Unless I missed it, these Scream releases are a perfect example.

Now I wonder just how many of their other popular titles are going to get the steelbook treatment. Hopefully a lot because the regular cover art has been pretty bad for quite a awhile now.

I'm surprised no SB for The Thing, but maybe they still have a lot of regular stock since it was just released in the last year.

I'll pass on the Steelbooks even though they're kind of cool. I'd prefer my Scream Factory titles to look somewhat uniform and plus I often prefer using the original artwork over the newly commissioned artwork. Besides the only one that I don't have is Escape From New York.

Big question: Will THEY LIVE be a re-encode and new transfer? The current release of that title has huge and unforgiveable problems with egregrious edge-enhancement and DNR, and looks very un-filmlike.

Or, as I suppose, will these limited edition versions will just be more fluff, recycling, and repackaging of the old transfers? Another quick cashgrab?

Nice art. I like all of those better than any of the Mondo art I've seen used on Steelbooks for other films.

But I'm a traditionalist. If these had been steelbooks using the original key art I would have been seriously tempted to double dip. Not feeling any pull here for these.

But again, they are some pretty sweet new illustrations. Kudos to the art director and illustrator.

Can't imagine they'll be making new discs to go inside of these. It would certainly be nice, though, if they made empty versions available at a much lower price for people who already own those movies, so they Can choose how to store the discs they already own.

I'm not a steelbook guy, but I certainly admire the more thoughtful examples of the form, like these Shout cases where the artist has created vivid interpretations of key aspects all three films. The Mondo cases too often feel like they're adorned with chintzy clip art.

Unrelated, but those Hercules films posted earlier should really have been issued as a double feature, at best. Shout's done some excellent double features of far better movies, even Cannon stuff like the Breakin' films!

It is just a repackaging.

So will they use that most recent MGM "remastered" transfer for this?

https://smile.amazon.com/Fargo-Remas...=fargo+blu-ray

Seems an odd move since Shout! had never released the movie before.

Any new extras? This should have been a Criterion candidate. How come no Coen Bros., I believe is on Criterion?

Could it be Shout is running out of viable titles to release? At least from their Scream line. Going forward I hope they start releasing more under their "Select" label. Just looking at my shelf I can think of a ton of stuff in need of a Blu that would fit that line.

Fargo is ripe for one of the anniversary features when the cast and/or the director reminisce about the movie years later. Criterion and Shout!/Scream! do a great job with those. Something like that should be included on any new Fargo release.

Blood Simple and Inside Llewyn Davis. It wasn't until 2016 that they had a title released by Criterion though.
