What to do with HD DVD discs? Looking for suggestions..

A while back I bought into the high def DVD world and backed the side that didn't win. This Christmas the wife has given me a nice Sony Blu-Ray player which I've already got hooked up . I'm going to keep the HD DVD player and move it to another TV as an "upconverter". I've already done the red2blu thing for the movies I cared about.

So now I have this dilemma, I've got a bunch HD DVD discs (some still wrapped) that I doubt I'll ever use again, and I want the space for my new Blu discs. I've looked on the forum swap thing here, and I don't have anything particularly rare/valuable so I doubt anyone here would want them. Don't want to go the ebay route because of the hassle. And since they are HD DVD I can't even donate them to the library. Don't expect to make any thing "significant" in a trade or sell situation(I know their value ), just trying to figure out something to do with them other then just chucking them into the trash.

Just sell them through Amazon Marketplace. Even if you only make $3 a disc it's better than just trashing them.

Watch them. Sell them. Eat them.

All mine actually still work somehow, so I am able to watch them on my player whenever I feel like watching a particular movie.

Coasters for me. As I have all of them on blu ay except for Grand Prix and Miami Vice. Just been too lazy to get vice and I'll assume Warner's will pull their heads out of their asses and release Grand Prix. I was planning on selling my A3 as I have enough good upgrading players.

I'm holding onto all of mine that aren't already on Blu-ray. My duplicates I've been giving to friends and family. (Combo discs to friends; I have multiple relatives with HD DVD players, so they get the rest.)

All mine somehow still play. Much like DVDs, VHS, and even Laserdiscs. Just because a format is dead does not make them worthless. But whatever, enjoy Cutthroat Island on Blu-ray

Bingo. As soon as Eternal Sunshine, The Pianist, Stardust, and several others are released on Blu-ray, then we can start to consider it "obsolete". All mine still work great!

Ditto mine. My HTPC's combo drive loves HD DVDs. If anyone would like to donate their "worthless" HD DVDs to it I'm sure you'd just make its day.

I still have my copy of Norbit I can "donate" if you'd like. I forgot Paramount sent that one to me. I never upgraded that one, but don't plan to. You would have to pay shipping of course.

Same here. I keep hearing they're junk, but every time I put one in it plays just fine.

If you want them gone so bad you're thinking about trashing them, just offer the entire collection up in the exchange forum for the cost of shipping. Someone will bite. You won't make anything but at least someone else will be able to enjoy the movies instead of them rotting in a landfill.

I'm keeping mine. All of them play just fine, and are worth more to me than a dumpster heap. I still need to send in the Red2Blu for the Sopranos sets though.

By the way, like others stated, I'll gladly pay shipping and handling for some I don't have. You'd be putting them to good use by sending them to HD DVD owners who still want to enjoy their players. But honestly, I recommend you just keep them.

I haven't upgraded one HD DVD to Blu-ray. They play fine and I have 3 players so I'll keep it going for the foreseeable future.

I've updated about 10 'must haves' to Blu-ray. That's it for me. The only other way I upgrade is if they are in the damn DigiBooks since I'm obsessed with collecting them all.

Re: What to do with HD DVD discs? Looking for suggestions..

Even though the format was only in play for 21 months, they released a remarkably high percentage of 'must haves' for me- and I grabbed every one as soon as I could.
at least 75% have made it to Bd, including some imports I never thought would have, but I've only 'upgraded' one- since Amazon had it for $7 a couple weeks back.
It would be nice to streamline my collection and port everything to blu, but I've still got 2 HD DVD players that have had only light use. Doesn't make much sense to replace any of them at this point.

If they were good enough to buy in the first place, why wouldn't you just keep them?

First off thanks for all the replies! You all gave me some things to think about..

But a lot of what mattered to me I converted with red2blu(haven't got the discs yet but they have got my cover art). The other non-Warner stuff there are only a couple I care enough to buy again and they are available on blu(I'll hang on to the HD until I rebuy) . A bunch I got via a deal when I bought my player (can't remember if it was 6 or 8 discs for "free") and I've only unwrapped one of those. Finally I picked up some at the fire-sales at the end of the HD-BLU war.

I guess I'm at a stage where if I don't like the movie well enough to re-watch it someday, I want it out to make room.

oh. Yeah, I picked up a few during the fire sales that I still haven't gotten around to watching and am in no hurry to do so. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but ...

You might try Newtown.com They are still buying a few HD DVDs.

Re: What to do with HD DVD discs? Looking for suggestions..

You could sell them as one big lot on ebay. That would be quick and get it over with rather than nickel and diming for each individual disc. I kept mine and still watch one occasionally. I kind of wish I'd bought one of those LG combo HD-DVD/BD drives while they were cheap.

Offer them up as a sacrifice in a paganistic ritual to the Blu-Ray gods to get Good Burger: Criterion Collection BD released.
