Warner's new DVD2BLU program begins

Warner Brothers is now offering us the chance to trade in some of our WB dvd titles for Blu-rays at a reasonable price (about $8).

http://www.dvd2blu.com/

This is actually pretty sweet. It was originally done to trade in HD-DVDs for Blu-rays and now has expanded. While I don't feel the need to upgrade every WB title I own on DVD, there are quite a few I think would be worth an $8 upgrade.

And once again, no good for Canadians. I took advantage of the red2blu offer using a friend in the US, so I might have to check this out to see if there is anything worth upgrading.

Definitely not as good a deal as red2blu, IMO. Less titles with no plans to add more titles (according to the faq), and you have to send back the actual disks this time. Also, it's more expensive.

Meh. A good chunk of those Blu-rays already sell in the $10 range

Understatement of the year!

Yeah, this is not as good as Red2Blu. Many of the titles listed can be bought for around $10 during retail sales so you can pay the same price as this "program" and keep your DVDs.

Hell, the "new" titles like Speed Racer, 10,000 B.C., Rush Hour 3, and Body of Lies are $9.95 to upgrade to Blu but so are the catalog titles A Christmas Story and Full Metal Jacket.

Better off selling the DVDs for the newer films since the resell value is still good and just waiting for sales on the older ones.

Plus, you don't know which version of Full Metal Jacket they would send you.

For $7.95, I may upgrade Training Day, Lost Boys, and Constantine. Considering I got all for about 6 bucks each, it's not a bad trade-in. Still not as good as the Red2Blu offer. I was glad to have mostly cleaned out my HD DVD's.

I don't think the old FMJ BD has been in production for almost 2 years now so you're probably safe.

Not much of a deal on most of those. I already bought most on BD anyway so the shipping for a couple of discs kills it.

There are a couple I'd go for here, but most can be had for that price anyways. I might bite on Beetlejuice and Orphanage.

Beetlejuice is like $10 on Amazon.

no Willy Wonka or Casablanca...which are still not up on Red2Blu either. :(

Casablanca was on Red2Blu.

You could go from the single disc HD DVD to the Ultimate Collector's Edition for $15. However, Warner stocked out on the UCE so these orders were delayed. Warner then stopped providing the UCE, "refunded" the $15 payment, and sent just an unwrapped Casablanca movie-only BD.

This movie-only BD did have cover art (its the same single discer out now).

As a result, Warner removed Casablanca from the Red2Blu program. Same goes for The Matrix digibook and Harry Potter UCE suitcase.

Not terrible, but I can "upgrade myself" with eBay/ Amazon for a few bucks less on 95% of these without the 4-6 weeks wait.

I'm glad WB is doing this promo, but I only saw three titles that I only have on DVD and none were worth the $8-$10 upgrade. Maybe if they add some more titles... :)

Wish there were more DVD's that could be traded up, like the mentioned Casablanca. Still, I might think about doing this just so I can get rid of my DVD's.

Wow, the selection is way lower than red2blu, and the prices are terrible for those titles. Most can be had for those prices with various sales, without having to trade in your DVD. I'll pass...

Any of the titles I'd like to upgrade I've either already upgraded or grabbed HD-DVD's on the cheap. I wouldn't mind having the BD version of Elf because that is a family favorite but it probably wouldn't show up by Christmas.

I only have 3 dvds that I can upgrade on the list. I've sold and upgraded the other ones I had on the list. If they add Heat, I might possibly upgrade. There is shipping charge unless you are getting $25 worth.

True. I found only two titles that I have not already traded-in over the past 18 months (and upgraded.) Their list will need to increase dramatically to entice my participation.

I've seen those 3 films for $7.99 each on Amazon.com. I don't see the true bargain in this program since you can get a lot of those BD for $10 without going to the trouble of losing your DVD in the process.
