Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
Thanks for the update. Weird about the subs, but I can't watch it without them, so I can live with that. Nice to see other sites offering better deals for American customers, too.

Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
The problem that Solid Snake is referring to is that the Miramax DVD of the movie had a "dumbed down" subtitle translation with several really obvious and distracting typos. Foreign DVD editions used the original theatrical subtitles, which came from a superior translation (and had no typos).
I can't speak for the new Canadian Blu-ray, but the Australian Blu-ray has the theatrical subtitles.

Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
I am happy with the Aussie release, but if anyone could be so kind as to review the Canadian version ASAP, it would be much appreciated.
I'm wondering is the Alliance version (just the disc) will really be any different than the US version that gets released some day.
Even though I need the subs, I like being able to turn them off but this was one of my top 10 when the format started, so this title means more to me than others.
If the pq and aq is pretty much the same, I'd be willing to lose money to sell my Aussie copy to get the extras. Back in the dvd only days, special features meant a lot, but now I care a lot more about how the film look and sounds and will make sacrifices if need be,
That said, with this being such a big title for me, I'd love to get my special features back, especially if this is likely what we will see when it gets a US release but most of all if the pq and aq are close to equal or the Alliance one is better.
Any help with this title would be much appreciated. So, if you buy and watch it, especially if you've seen the Aussie version, please share your opinions.
Thanks.

Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
Can someone confirm if the Alliance Amelie disc is single-layer of dual-layer?
It should be dual-layer considering all the content it has, but this is Alliance we're talking about - the odds are usually pretty good that they messed something up.

Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
Anyone hear anything about the pq yet?
I've heard the Aussie one was the best looking one before this release and someone is selling it for $20 at amazon. That's about even with Axel, so it would come down to picture quality.
I want the featues, but a beautiful transfer is what I want most until the "eventual" US release, which I bet will have the special features.

Digital Bits gives the Canadian AMELIE Blu-ray a solid review (with the expected warning about the subs):

Hope this helps.

Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
Can someone confirm if the "Amelie Scrapbook" with production photos, storyboards, and poster designs made it to the Blu-ray?
I don't care about the Cast and Crew filmography stuff, but these extras making it over here are important to me.

Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
and of course I just ordered the Aliance version (along with 'From Dusk til Dawn' and 'City of God') before the US release annoucement ....
here's what blu-ray.com is stating are the features (the commentary track seems to be missing)
The Look of Amélie featurette
Fantasies of Audrey Tatou
Q&A with Director and Cast
Auditions
Storyboard to Screen Comparisons
An Intimate Chat with Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet
Home Movies: Inside the Making of Amélie

Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
after seeing how From Dusk Till Dawn was bungled, I assumed Amelie , whenever it got released would be put out by the same label. So when inet.com was offering free shipping on this a couple weeks back, I jumped on it.
I've only watched the first chapter or so, but I'm thrilled with the PQ. Sure, I could have saved a few more bucks if I'd only held out a little while longer, but it's all good. I got something I value a great deal at a fair price.
I hope for everyone else's sake that Lionsgate does a stellar job with this title.

Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
Yea, I just bought the Alliance version myself a few weeks ago. It was more than I like to spend on a catalog title, but it looks like the Special Features are all the same. Also, there's no Francais on the cover, unusual for a Canadian title.

I haven't picked this one up yet, although I have heard good things about the Alliance release. I'll see how the Lionsgate release compares before I pick it up.

Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
The Canadian disc is interlaced so I passed on that. What I'm wondering is about the subtitles on the US Lionsgate disc, and if any extras will be left off, as they haven't announced the commentaries that were on the Miramax DVD.

Re: Amélie on Blu-ray Disc
The earlier TVA release in Canada was interlaced with no subs, but the subsequent Alliance release is a nice, 1080p transfer with selectable English subs. My guess is that the Miramax release will have the same transfer as the Alliance disc.
