Amélie on Blu-ray Disc

As Adboy151 mentioned in last week's "What are you getting" thread, Amélie was released on Blu-ray Disc by Icon in Australia on November 10. I thought I'd give it its own thread in case others are interested.

The Canadian release was sub-par, to put it mildly, so this appears to be the first chance for English speakers to pick up Amélie on BD. Who knows when Disney (Miramax) will get around to releasing it in the USA? (And the DVD release had numerous subtitle errors.)

This Australian Icon release is region A, B, C; DTS-HD MA 5.1; 2.35:1; English subs.
Extras:
* The Making of Amélie
* Audrey Tautou's funny faces
* Storyboard comparison
* Photo gallery
* Trailers
[As mentioned downthread, the extras are in PAL and are not playable on a standard USA BD player. They ought to work on a region-free BD player, such as the Momitsu or equivalent.]

Amazon has it for $34.95, with "usually ships in 11 to 14 days":
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...=nosim/dvdtalk

Australian DVD seller ezdvd.com lists Amélie but says it is out of stock:
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/809272
The price is currently AU$29.97 with AU$5.50 shipping. After subtracting the 10% GST, that should work out to about US$30.

A poster at bluray.com (defjukie) reports that it is available from Melbourne based chaos.com for about US$25 shipped using coupon CHAOSPAYPALXMAS :
http://chaos.com/product/amelie_5691475_165175.html
(There appears to be a 10% off sale that, along with the coupon, lowers the price to ~$23 shipped.)
"Estimated despatch 5-10 days after ordering"

I'm giving Chaos a try.

If there are any better deals or other releases out there, please post them.

I'm still waiting for this flick to hit R1. I'd like to see what it could bring.

We named out daughter Amelie after this movie. We picked it up on a whim two days before she was born and after it was over we decided that Amelie would be her name. I will look into picking this up. Thanks for the info.

Not a review but Suntory Times from the Blu-Ray.com forums mentioned he had a copy. Said the subtitles are above and below the picture.

I'm tired of waiting. This is a top five favorite movie for me and when it turned out that the Aussie BD was region free and seems to be a solid release, from reports of those who got it already, I figured I'd give it a try.

As long as I was at it, I ordered two copies. I'll probably sell the extra; it's not as if the market will be saturated with them.

As with Amazon and ezdvd the status at Chaos is "on order". A New Zealand store has it in stock but their international shipping was reported to be high (I didn't check).

Saw this yesterday in Real Groovy for only NZ$14.95 (I'm in Wellington, New Zealand). Too bad I hate the film, but that's a great bargain. Unfortunately it's not available on the Real Groovy website yet.

Why do you hate it?

Well I don't really want to threadcap, so I'll just say I find it too sickly sweet for its own good.

I think you missed the whole point of the movie.

Mine just shipped from that Chaos place. Hopefully it won't take too long.

^I also got a shipped notice from Chaos. That didn't take long.

I just ordered it on Amazon Marketplace, new, for $14.29 plus $2.98 shipping. It's still listed there, so they must have multiple copies available.

You named your daughter after the movie, so yeah -- you like it. I also really like the movie, but it's obviously pretty sweet -- you can't imagine how some people would find it to be too much without saying that "they missed the point"? How often is there merit to the statement "You just didn't like it because you didn't get it"? I mean, is Amelie really that subtle?

And so it's not a pure threadcrap: c'mon R1 release!

Hard to beat that price if they are authentic. I wonder how they got them so inexpensively?

Sickly sweet is only ONE of the problems I have with the film. I think you overrated the film, but each to their own.

It's really going cheap at quite a few places in NZ, eg The Warehouse has it for NZ$22.95 but they don't ship internationally. If I see it on the real groovy website I'll let people know, as they do ship internationally because yeah $14.95 is crazy and most people do like the film.

Well wholesale price must be less than US$10.

Also it's coming from Australia so there's no US import middle man it seems.

Definitely thinking about ordering this for that cheap of a price.

Right now EzyDVD is OOS and even then it's about $28-29 before shipping.

I already own two copies of this film, why not a third :)

Mine just shipped from that Marketplace seller, so I went ahead and canceled my Amazon backorder.

I hope we get a report back on this, because your question concerns me as well. Luckily there are no other marketplace copies, so I don't have to worry whether it's worth the risk or not.

I'm nervous enough when I see a crazy low price for something new that was manufactured here, but these were made in Australia and that price is almost like giving them away.

I've bought stuff from the marketplace seller before (mostly vinyl LPs), and they are legit. I have no worries.

Question has been answered. It's only $14.95 in NZ so will have a less than US$10 wholesale price. Did you read the rest of the thread?

Edit: Realgroovy's price is in-store only. It's NZ$29.95 online.

The same seller has more listed now, but at $23.48...
I'm glad I bought it from them when I did!

I got this today and gave it a spin. The picture quality is excellent, and there are English subtitles. :) Note that all of the extras except for the picture gallery do not play on a U.S. model PS3 (they must be PAL). No problems playing back the movie itself, though.
