I went ahead and bought The Savage Innocents earlier in the month as it looked interesting in terms of story, cast, and director. I was pretty disappointed. I read a review before watching it about how the movie was degrading toward the Inuit culture and I have to agree. The best part was seeing Peter O'Toole in his breakout performance. Anthony Quinn was almost unwatchable for me. I'm usually able to watch a film in the mind set of when it was made (e.g. the treatment of Native Americans in Stagecoach, which didn't bother me) but this movie just seemed like complete buffoonery.

I'm pondering ordering The Prisoner of Shark Island and Nightmare Alley (I already own Gandahar). I import lots of PAL discs for various reasons but I always prefer to buy NTSC if I can. In regards to Nightmare Alley, is the MoC release worth buying over the domestic Fox disc? The Fox disc is missing some extras but has the meat and bones (commentary and trailer) and it looks like they came out around the same time so I'm assuming they're from the same master. Does anyone have advice on which disc to order?

Both editions of Nightmare Alley are taken from the same master. If you're a die-hard fan of the film, the MoC has a 10 minute intro and a 25 minute discussion by Woody Haut, plus a booklet. Here's the DVD Beaver comparison. The R1 Shark Island disc looks significantly better than the MoC, and has a different commentary. Here's the DVD Beaver comparison. I'd say go with R1 for both, they're probably cheaper, and in the case of Shark Island's transfer, superior.

Jeez, even the MOC collection is already past its 100th mark. Even accounting for some of them that I bought and for some which I have a comparable edition for, there's quite a few on the waiting list to be activated once I actually start earning money (I'm slated to get my terminal degree in May).

I guess i should start looking for jobs in the UK.

No, £12.99 each is a pretty good deal. Both are £15.99 from Amazon before VAT is removed and shipping added. You're in for a real treat with the Murnaus - both, especially City Girl, look phenomenal. Tokyo Sonata and Mad Detective @ £8.99 each are serious steals as well.

They do not remove VAT, but offer free shipping worldwide. Amazon, by comparison, charges £3 shipping for the first item and £1 for each additional one. VAT is roughly £2 and change per title. For example, Rolling Thunder has a listed sale price of £14.93 on Amazon, but is £12.44 after VAT removal.
