The Official Eureka / Masters of Cinema Thread
It seems best to have one single official thread for all MoC DVD news and reviews, to complement the MoC Blu-ray thread. Please post all MoC DVD-related information here. To get the ball rolling:
Also, the two upcoming Pialat titles, A nos amours and Sous le soleil de Satan, have been pushed back to March.
Twitsclusive: we're releasing Douglas Sirk's THERE'S ALWAYS TOMORROW in February 2010. Our release will be DVD only. But it will contain DAYS WITH SIRK.

Eureka Entertainment have announced the UK DVD release of Lubitsch in Berlin as part of their Masters of Cinema Series on 25th January 2010 priced at £49.99 RRP. Before he arrived in Hollywood to leave his indelible (and inimitable) mark on timeless comedies like Trouble in Paradise and The Shop Around the Corner, Ernst Lubitsch created an expansive body of work in Germany that proved to be as varied in its tone as it was sophisticated in its measure of man and woman. This box set collects six recently restored works from the silent phase of Lubitsch’s career: Ich möchte kein Mann sein, Die Puppe, Die Austernprinzessin, Sumurun, Anna Boleyn and Die Bergkatze.
Features include:
* Six features across five discs, packaged in Thinpak casings within a hardbox
* A sixth disc containing Robert Fischer’s 2006 feature-length documentary Ernst Lubitsch in Berlin: From Schönhauser Allee to Hollywood
* New and exclusive concertina score for Die Puppe
* New liner notes for all six features by film-writers David Cairns, Anna Thorngate, and Ignatiy Vishnevetsky

One of the crazier trailers I've ever seen. This will be receiving a Criterion release next year as well.

There's Always Tomorrow
Douglas Sirk, 1956
Between his twin masterpieces All That Heaven Allows and Written on the Wind, Douglas Sirk created this razor-sharp study of male crisis, both a glittering testament to love’s labours lost and his most unforgiving vision of suburban conformity.
Disregarded and neglected by his family, executive toy manufacturer Clifford Groves (Fred MacMurray) is unexpectedly reunited with his former co-worker Norma Miller (Barbara Stanwyck). As the old friends catch up on lost time, his children’s suspicions and hostility to the new relationship threaten to push their father away permanently and throw into disarray the lives of all concerned.
With crystalline, noir-tinged cinematography from Russell Metty (Touch of Evil) and heartbreaking performances by Stanwyck and MacMurray, reunited 12 years after Double Indemnity in their final on-screen pairing,There’s Always Tomorrow finds one of Hollywood’s greatest dramatists at his finest. The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present this little-seen classic in a new special edition.
Special Features:
• Beautiful high-definition anamorphic transfer
• Days with Sirk, a 61-minute documentary from 2008 featuring rare interview footage with Sirk shot in 1982
• Original theatrical trailer
• Original dialogue and continuity script (as a downloadable PDF)
• Booklet featuring an essay by Andrew Klevans, excerpts from a 1977 interview with Sirk and rare production stills

re: The Official Eureka / Masters of Cinema Thread
If you're a fan of Samurai films, Assassination will be right up your alley. It's quite sophisticated stylistically, though the plot requires a bit of historical context to follow. Savage Innocents is somewhat ham-fisted in it's decrying of modern consumerism, and the acting is a tad hokey, but the location shooting is gorgeous.

re: The Official Eureka / Masters of Cinema Thread
hmm, I do like samurai films but both the Masashiro Shinoda films I have seen have left me cold, Double Suicide and Samurai Spy. Very stylish filmmaker but I found both to be overdone and emotionally distant films.

re: The Official Eureka / Masters of Cinema Thread
Picked up Assassination, Humanity and Paper Balloons, Kuroneko and the Maurice Pialat and Early Classics bundles. Great deal, though I'm still waiting on the Mizoguchi sets I ordered from their last sale weeks ago.
