Just look at the lower right screen when the Helicopter turns. Nothing is better than 1080p.
I think every movie and channel are probably a little different. I'm not sure if there is a Blu-ray version of "To Catch a Thief" to compare that to. I was also very impressed by "Bullitt" and a few scenes of "Blood Simple" on HDTV. I did do a comparsion of the standard DVD of "Sweet Smell of Success" to the MGMHD broadcast and the HD version was a million times better. I think they even had a different print. I would tell anybody who has a Blu-ray machine to look for any movies shot in Vistavision (like "To Catch a Thief"), because if they do look better then the HDTV broadcast it must be amazing.

And lets not forget Sony's push for 4K digital cinema. Imagine that at home? Just where the hell would I project something so massive?

Since the OP's question was about Blu-ray and HDTV, and the resolutions you posted aren't part of the HDTV format and therefor not available in home electronics, they aren't relevant to the discussion.

Well technically you can buy a 4K home theater projector from JVC if you have an extra 175K to spend!

I don't believe resolution is that big of a deal going forward with new technologies. OTOH, give me improved color reproduction and better aspect ratio controls.

Re: Blu-ray vs HDTV

For the record I meant " for now there is nothing better than 1080p on blu-ray" But it didn't come out that way
I figure we have a way to go before 2k or even 4k. They are still trying to get atleast 1080p over our poor internet connections for downloads. And that doesn't include lossless audio.
