Even in a Blu-ray case, with multiple stickers saying it is not a DVD, and will only play in a Blu-ray players, people still had to be spoon-fed. Some insisted it would play, since the salesman told them their DVD player could play everything, including DivX and MP3.
It's amazing how people seem to have no problem getting the right video games for their consoles, but when it comes to movie formats, their brains just turn to mush.

Well, the Cases forum is specifically a subset of the DVD forum, so if this thread were there people would be saying it doesn't belong there because it would fall under the HD forum (which doesn't have a "cases" department).

A conundrum to be sure. More study is needed.

I also agree. I just purchased my first 2 blu rays (don't even have a player yet) and when opening them to watch at a friends house I noticed the extra plastic at the top and thought about how many dvd covers have been damaged... never again!

I don't really mind the cases, per se, but I do wish they had more exclusive packaging like steelbooks and such. It sucks seeing a DVD get some fancy set when the Blu gets a boring little case. Like that Casino Royale SE that had a velvet interior (I think). I want that kind of treatment for films on Blu.

How on earth do you damage your covers? Were you busy using a hacksaw to get the sticker off? I just peeled the things off with no problem.

Sometimes the cover art isn't aligned so that it's entirely under the plastic outer cover (or whatever it's called). If a bit of the cover art is sticking out over the top, the security sticker will stick to it when it is placed on at the factory. Then, it is difficult (if not impossible) to remove the sticker without tearing off the image printed on the cover art. It only leaves a little strip of exposed white, but you know how OCD people can get with things they collect.

With BDs, the top bar leaves plenty of room to place the sticker, so that it has almost no chance of touching the cover art. Of course, if they decide to place a sticker on the bottom, there can be stripping.

I love the aesthetic of the cases. My biggest gripe is that some of them breaks so easily when I accidentally dropped it, unlike the oldie goodie Amaray DVD cases. Better material would be welcomed.

Re: Will blu ray ever get rid of those hideous blue cases?

Exactly! I've had the artwork of countless DVD's marred because the sticker goes too far down, or the artwork slipped out from under the plastic; and, even more often, the clear plastic cover gets nicks in it when I have to prick at the decal repeatedly to get it to start coming up...

I like the Blu-ray cases much better specifically because of the top border. This gives the sticker a hard plastic surface from which I can peel it free without harming the case...

With DVDs, if the cover art isn't lined up just right, sometimes the sticker can get stuck directly onto it, making it difficult to remove the sticker without stripping a little of the artwork.

Re: Will blu ray ever get rid of those hideous blue cases?

first off, who cares about the top border? Yea most titles don't match the blu theme. But at least they match each other. I have DVDs that have come in many cases, wors of which were those hideous hard cover cases with the snap latch on the side!!!!!

I can't believe someone would not by a format because of the cases. It just means you don't really care to watch them in Hi Def, or you would deal with it!

That's my op!

Or ... if you don't like that the colours don't match the blue cases, do what I did!!!

Now they math the blue! (Except for the Academy ones at the end, but they are still the same theme!)
