Sensurround was a 1.1 format - mono with a dedicated subwoofer channel. Really not all that impressive sonically, just loud.

I know, but in 1974 when most theaters had tinny sound, it was impressive, especially when you were 7 and you were seeing a movie about an earthquake. The sound was so low frequency though, that you could really feel it (or you thought you did?) so the gimmick worked. It didn't make the acting any better though!
