No interest in combos here. Keep the DVD and digital copy, just want the Blu-ray with lots of extras.

Re: Combo Packs to Continue on...
just got back from bestbuy in westhollywood this morning and its 26.99, thats where i got 26.99 from
Where do you see a $26.99 price at Best Buy? The website says $34.99. Since Best Buy is the nation's #1 retailer, their sticker price is important. The average consumer buys their movies there. I'd say a $34.99 price probably scares off some people. If the list price was lower, the sticker price would be lower. Hence the reason why, yes, list price does matter.
Retailers may not be heavily discounting Disney BDs all the time. I'm sure it's costing them more to get Disney BDs, so in turn, they're going to charge the consumer more.
I still can't figure out why anyone would defend higher prices. I could understand Bob Chapek defending them.

I dunno, I guess my mindset now is that these conbos get put to use with my daughter. Thery're Disney titles, meaning she'll be interested in watching most of them. I know I wouldn't be buying as many before I had her, and previously I would have been like many of you and sold them off more than likely. But having a family simply changes the dynamic and reasoning for having combos. They get put to use, sometimes all 3 formats.
Sure the MSRP is high, but as I pointed out in another thread a while back - either buy them on sale on release day when there's hopefully a sale, or wait a few months and catch a sale. Fry's had High School Musical 3, Bedtime Stories, and a few others, for $13.99.

Paranoid much?
If you really think Disney is going to come after him for selling off a digital copy disc that he already legitimately paid for, then why haven't they already been suing every single store or person in the country that sells used/pre-owned DVDs?

I guess I'm in the minority, but I like the DVD/Blu combos from Disney. For those types of family movies, I need both the Blu and DVD. As long as I can pick them up for $20-$25, I'm not too concerned with the MSRP.

I'd much rather pay a small premium for an extra dvd disc (which offers some utility for me) than digibook packaging or worse yet, a bloated box of trinkets.
Has Warner ever mentioned plans to re-release their digibook titles in regular packages w/ regular MSRPs?

I don't mind paying a slightly higher price for blu-ray; I still consider it a premium/niche product at this point. However, I do mind paying extra for DVD and digital copies that I'll just toss in the garbage.

I like the inclusion of a DVD, but I've yet to use a single digital copy of anything. I wouldn't sell them separately though because then its not the complete package.
Also as long as Disney keeps supplying the $10 coupons.

my thoughts as well - when i want to watch the movie with my kids on our 52" in blu ray, i have the option. the kids can watch the movie anywhere else (other dvd players, laptops, in the vehicle, ... ) with the DVD copy. for new releases, combo packs are fine. i would get a bit chaffed if i already had the SD copy and was forced to repurchase it in order to have the BD copy.

Give away? I've been selling the digital copy discs & activation codes on eBay for a while now, and that $$ helps off-set the costs of my Blu-ray purchases. I'm thrilled that folks are willing to pay $5 + shipping for a digital copy disc.
If Disney continues this DVD & digital copy stuff, I'll have two discs to sell off and thus, as the previous poster indicated.... deny Disney more retail sells.

I felt the same way but I'll be damned if I didn't put about 20 movies on my laptop before we went to Guatemala this summer and we put quite a few of them to use. You just never know when you look through your collection and wish that you could take a few movies with you to watch while on the go.

Was there a big market for portable VHS players, car players, laptops or game consoles with VHS decks built in a decade ago?Size, portability, ease of use, disc prices and the proliferation of DVD players being in more places than the home are the reason why people still like a DVD copy despite having made the jump to BD.

Movie collecting, or even owning your own film library, really took off with the advent of DVD. The size and permanence of the format were huge factors IMHO, with pricing being key as well of course.
I was a huge movie fan, but refused to buy many tapes due to their shortcomings. Once DVDs came out, a whole new world opened up for a lot of people.

I love the combo idea. I too have not spent more than $20 for any of these Disney titles. Just be patient, the deals are out there.

Re: Combo Packs to Continue on...
I recall a lot of people hated the HD-DVD combo discs since they were priced higher- those who had both formats opted for the Blu-Ray if a title was available on both (like "300") just because of that. As long as they're going to charge more for these, they should give us the choice of buying JUST the Blu-Ray disc if that's all we want.

Re: Combo Packs to Continue on...
We're 13 years into DVD, but it seems like the price of a new release is still the same as it was all those many years ago. I don't buy DVDs anymore, so please correct me if I'm wrong here. But back in 1999, the MSRP of any new non-catalog release was 24.99-34.99. Seems like that's still what it is today, and they've even begun raising prices as they split releases into 1-dics and 2-disc versions and so forth.
If that's true, what makes Blu-Ray any different than DVD? Sure the DVDs that don't sell and are years old get dumped into bargain bins. If that's what you're complaining about, then I'd say we've already started to see that happen. But these Disney combo discs are by and large new release of theatrical movies.

People also hated that they were flippers, leading to scratches and fingerprints.
