What's the proper abbreviation for Blu-ray disks?

I thought it was "BD" (BD-Live for example), but I see a lot of people using "BR" or simply just "Blu".

Is there one that we can all just settle on?

I think BD is the correct usage, but I don't think you'll ever get other people to stop using BR or Blu.

A retailer that I used to work for had it as 'BRD' in their database.
HD-DVD was 'HDD'.

Extremely frustrating.

Yup, "BD". Rhymes with "VD".

Huh, I guess they didn't sell any other electronics then? Everyone knows HDD stands for Hard Disk Drive, right?

BD is what I always use. "Blu-ray" is one word (with a dash) so it only makes sense.

That's the thing. They're supposed to be called "Blu-ray Disc(s)" but many people shorten that to "Blu-ray(s)." So to them, "BR" sounds right.

Re: What's the proper abbreviation for Blu-ray disks?

If a person posts BR in a DVD forum, it really shouldn't explode a person's brain to figure out they mean Blu-ray. In addition, you have studios who have done a terrible job at educating the public in regards to High-Def, so let's start with those idiots first before we attack posters who post BR.

Yeah, I suppose the unsuspecting poster could have meant BACK RUB, but I have yet to get a back rub from my Blu-ray player.

If there is a clear indication the abbreviation can be extremely misleading, then fine, but I have yet to see such a case.

Maybe that should be a whole other thread.

It depends on how I'm constructing the sentence. I'd say something like "this movie is coming out on Blu-ray in September", but I'd also say something like "this Blu-ray disc doesn't have any extras".

I'm one that always preferred BR for Blu-ray.

Re: What's the proper abbreviation for Blu-ray disks?

I always preferred BR, and used it for awhile mainly out of stubbornness. But I imagine we'd all agree it would be best if we just accepted BD and try to standardize things here.

Re: What's the proper abbreviation for Blu-ray disks?

It's not a big deal. Just call it BD or BR. As long as we know what you're talking about, it's okay.

Getting people to change is like getting them to stop calling Lego bricks "Legos."

I've never heard of Lego Bricks, and I've been playing with them for 40 years. They're Legos!

Have they revealed how much extra memory will be required for a "happy ending"?

I'm still waiting for the BJ Profile. Spending $30 a disc should entitle me to one, right?
