BR is still 2 letters same as BD, explain how BR is lazy.

Yeah, I suppose the unsuspecting poster could have meant BACK RUB, but I have yet to get a back rub from my Blu-ray player.

If there is a clear indication the abbreviation can be extremely misleading, then fine, but I have yet to see such a case.
I can't believe I agree with DP on something.

The accepted abbreviation for Blu-ray Disc has been BD since before the format launched. This topic was much discussed in the first half of 2006. The use of "BR" tends to mark the poster as a relative newcomer to the forum and format. But I certainly agree that it is obvious what someone posting "BR" is referring to.

The use of "blu" strikes me as more of a slang expression and I rather like it.

They've used ads with "Blu" also. Either that or BD is what I would use.

Yeah, I think of "Blu" as more of a nickname than an abbreviation.

BD is correct.

I've never heard or seen "BR-Live" or "BR-Java".

At the same time, no matter the abbreviation the worst is misspelling it like this:

Blue-Ray
Blueray
Blue-ray DVD

That freakin' "e" in there....and adding "DVD" just confuses people more.

No, but you will get a forced trailer telling you how awesome Blu-Ray is!

Re: What's the proper abbreviation for Blu-ray disks?

I call it blu-ray when I'm speaking (I never say "blu-ray disc"), and when I'm writing I just write "blu". I never use BD because it seems like an un-intuitive shortening of "Blu-Ray".

Only downside of just calling it blu, is it reminds me of Blue Iris and I start going "Can I stick my finger in your ass?" under my breath.
