"To Live and Die in L.A." delayed?

No flames. I tried to search for the title and just "Die" in the entire HD talk and nothing came up. But, I just got an e-mail from Amazon that they are trying to locate this title for me. And I got the option of cancelling the order by 7/3 if they can't find it. Yet, dvdpricesearch.com still shows a 6/2 release date. And bestbuy.com shows it in stock. What the fuck Amazon!?

Delayed. MGM is going the extra mile with this...by adding in a DVD copy so they can claim Special Features.

And pss... http://forum.dvdtalk.com/hd-talk/555...-out-week.html

Thanks. And please PLEASE tell me how you found that link through the search engine? Because it hates words with less than five letters. And every one in the title has less.

That's really funny, I've noticed this as well, it's almost an impossible title to search... Not just dvd talk... It's a nightmare in a lot of sites...

Its because they don't want people searching 'I' or something like that. Has to be 3 or 4 letters long to be considered a word.

Do you mean page 1 on the HD discussion group or is there an actual "front page" here on DVDTalk I don't know about? Like a "home" page with news, links, etc. If it's the former, I noticed it at the bottom after you pointed out there was already a thread. But, again, I just went straight to the search engine before I did anything. Silly me.

Go to Google, do an "advanced search" and make the domain in which to search http://forum.dvdtalk.com. Works a lot better.

I still hope that Friedkin didn't get a chance to mess with this. Even if he did, I guess the BD will come with the DVD, which has unaltered image.

Shorthand is this:

live and die in LA site:forum.dvdtalk.com

The first hit with the above in google is this thread.

Re: "To Live and Die in L.A." delayed?

Looks like two things:

1) The film's from 1985 so that's a 25th Anniversary next year.

2) MGM has a movie coming out later this year called To Live And Die - not sure what the connection is to the old film but seems to be more than coincidence. I would imagine TLADILA will be timed on video for when the new film hits video.

Um... who directed this movie?

Please tell me they didn't delay the release so the director can "remaster" this film in the same way he did French Connection(!)

No doubt this is exactly what happened. It would be fatal to Friedkin's newfound "technique" if there were two versions of To Live and Die in L.A. on the market for BD, one "remastered" and one un-"remastered", and the latter sold far better.

Please, for the love of the baby Jesus, son't let Friedkin near this BD. I hope it's been delayed to allow MGM the proper time to do this disc right, not to allow Billy to bastardize it as he did with TFC.

About the Friedkin thing, do we have any reason to believe that just because he did what he did to The French Connection, that every one of his films would get that treatment? Has he said anything in an interview about doing this with everything? I'm just curious.

Yes, Friedkin confirmed in an interview that The Exorcist would be getting the French Connection "recoloring" treatment, and that he wanted to do the same to all of his movies. To Live and Die in LA was mentioned, but at the time of the interview he wasn't sure if Fox would spring for the expense of the new transfer.

This is a long interview, but it's worth listening to the whole thing to see just how out of touch with reality Friedkin has gotten.

I hope to hell it was delayed to add the DVD extras and replace the MPEG2 encode.
