The original, general release day was to be November 9th. It was canceled about six weeks before that (late September).

Big Daddy and Mr. Deeds, which was not originally announced in advance, made their debut at Best Buy on the original street date of November 9th.

Love, love, love Out of Sight, but I really dig that artwork. I am stunned that Universal actually did something cool and used that artwork vs the same old boring one we saw on the HD DVD and DVD versions.

Will get this too, but not until March or April. February is shaping up to be the biggest month of blu releases for me ever. Maybe if a new release or two get pushed back, I could pick it up, but my budget for February is already blown.

King of Kings (1961) - 3/29

Not the first Ray film I'd want on Blu-ray, but I'll take it.

Ah, forgot I owned that one! King of Kings should look very impressive on Blu-ray, even if Jeffrey Hunter irks me.

Both released by a company called Arts Alliance America, whom I've never heard of. Let's hope they aren't just glorified PD releases.

Over on the Criterion forum someone mentioned these will be taken from Public Domain prints.

Back from where? MGM is one of the most consistent studios in terms of releasing catalog titles.

They've released more catalog titles in the last year than Sony, Disney, Paramount, DreamWorks, and even Fox. They might be sparse, but they're less sparse than several other big studios. And they're doing it under bankruptcy (granted it's via Fox, but still).

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

A little note from The Digital Bits:

A number of you have asked what additional catalog titles we might see released on Blu-ray from MGM next year. As you know, the studio just officially unveiled the U.S. BD release of a Thelma & Louise: 20th Anniversary Edition (due on 2/8) and Last Tango in Paris (due 2/15). Well... sources tell us that among the titles likely for release in high-def in early 2011 are Blue Velvet, Rain Man, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Dead Man Walking. All four titles are already announced for Blu-ray release in France by MGM in February. So it's likely you'll see them follow in the States in the coming months as well.

Anyone have any info on this re-release of L.A. Confidential that's apparently coming out on January 4th?

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/LA-Con...Blu-ray/18966/

Is it just the current BD release with an awards slipcover? Or new material?

Likely the exact same disc with the awards slip.
