The Buddha (PBS) - 4/20/10

Two and a half millennia ago, a new religion was born in India, generated from the ideas of the Buddha, a mysterious Indian sage who gained enlightenment while he sat under a large, shapely fig tree. The Buddha never claimed to be God or his emissary on earth, only that he was a human being who had found a kind of serenity that others could find, too. This documentary tells the story of his life, a journey especially relevant in our own times.

The Last Shangri-La

I'm tempted to buy the UK version, but I want to make sure it's not Region B locked - Microcosmos was shown awhile ago on HDNet Movies and the presentation was stunning - the hidef imagery tactile and the aggressive 5.1 soundmix quite intense given it's subject matter - 'bugs'

I found a photo of the back of the UK version, and it does have a "B" code on it. Of course, that does not necessarily mean it is "locked".

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK is a powerful portrait of Mother Nature's handiwork. Located in majestic California about 90 miles northeast of Fresno, you'll find soothing relaxing images of cascading waterfalls, flowing rivers and spellbinding photography of the changing seasons. See Yosemite as never seen before, viewed from the air, from a raft, and at the top of its famous waterfalls. Take a deep breath and relax as these powerful images and the beautiful music invigorate your passion for life. Enjoy the beauty of this highly acclaimed video as we explore our national treasure called Yosemite.

4/1/10

Director Robert Stone ("Oswald's Ghost," "Guerrilla: The Taking of Patty Hearst") drawing heavily on eyewitness testimony and a wealth of never before seen archival footage, examines the revolutionary achievements - and missed opportunities - of a decade of groundbreaking activism. The result is both a poetic meditation on man's complex relationship with nature and a probing analysis of past responses to environmental crisis.

Includes:
Interviews with former Secretary of Interior Stewart Udall; renewable energy pioneer Hunter Lovins; Biologist Paul Ehrlich; former congressman Pete McCloskey; Earth Day organizer Denis Hayes; and Apollo Nine astronaut Rusty Schwecikart

Footage of all the presidents from JFK to George W. Bush discussing the environment

Stunning satellite footage of the Earth included in the film

The UK version of 'Earth' (released here in the States by Disney Home Video) is a 95 minute cut of the film and features Patrick Stewart as the film's narrator - the bluray while it states Region 'B' on the case and on the actual disc as well, is playable on US bluray players.

Thanks, Jim. I am going to hold off posting it in the list until we see it for sale somewhere.

Re: Blu-ray Documentary & Special Interest Release Thread

Race Across The Sky, the documentary about the 2009 Leadville 100 MTB race, went up for sale in the last day or two. It's $34.99 + $4.95 shipping at raceacrossthesky.com or a couple of dollars cheaper from an Amazon seller. Kind of pricey, but a unique Blu-ray for MTBers.
