What's this "Disney's Earth"? Is it just "Planet Earth" footage spliced together in 90 minute form?

Re: Blu-ray Documentary & Special Interest Release Thread
^ essentially yes, it's interesting/frustrating that the international version of the film had Patrick Stewart do the narration, while the US version has James Earl Jones. The UK bluray has Stewart's narration, but is region B locked.

Watched 'Earth'...meh. Alot of it was covered in Planet Earth and it seemed tamed down for the kids. Picture and Audio were amazing though. I ordered that 'Six Degrees' thing from Warner - how is that?

I've got the Netherlands region-free release. It was really good, and a great technical presentation. It has Patrick Stewart doing the narration.
Has anyone heard if Wild Russia is coming out on Blu-ray? I caught that on Discovery. It was awesome. Right up there with Planet Earth.

Objectified - UK release - 10/5. (Region ???)

"Objectified" is a feature-length documentary about our complex relationship with manufactured objects and, by extension, the people who design them. In his second film, director Gary Hustwit ("Helvetica") documents the creative processes of some of the world’s most influential product designers, and looks at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. No release dates that I can see, but these have been posted on MagicPlay Entertainment's website.

Staying alive in Asia's barren heartland of desert and dry grasslands is a challenge, yet many animals thrive. The Arid Heart explores life in the arid interior, revealing the secrets of surviving both searing summer heat and bitter winter cold. Przewalski's horses are the only true wild horses in the world. They are nomads who roam the grasslands in search of the best grazing. The Demoiselle Cranes' journey from India takes them across the stony Gobi desert, the bleak centre of Asia's arid heart. Here, there is hardly any water, yet the desert is still home to a thousand wild Bactrian camels, who are superbly adapted to the desert. The Arid Heart is the story of life in Asia's dry lands and grasslands of the Mongolian steppe, the stony Gobi Desert, and the sandy deserts of India. These are places of extreme, where summers are intensely hot and winters are bitterly cold. The animals who live here are tough and resilient, and not only survive, but thrive.

The Last Salt Caravan follows the Ancient Trade Route to Tibet’s mysterious gorge with a salton spring. We follow the caravan as it is taking a salt-selling journey on the Ancient Trade Route between Tibet and China.
The memory of the ancient trade route was regarded as something that had fallen into oblivion until we met the last salt caravan in the deep mountains of Tibet!
The Province of Yunnan, located in the south western part of China, is the very starting point of the Ancient Tea Trade Route toward Tibet, which was also called a southern Silk Road with a two thousandyear history.
Caravans from Yanjing and Yunnan still take this route to trade tea, grains and most importantly, salt. Throughout the history, salt had been the source of power and taxation. This region and the salt caravan have never been introduced to outside world, and therefore, their local characteristics and culture are untouched by modern civilization.

The lotuses blossom most luxuriantly from June to September each year, and at this time the town organizes a series of Lotus Festival activities.
The first records of lotuses harvested in Water Lily Town date back at least 19 years. The town’s ponds fan out over about 410 hectares of land, constituting two-thirds of the island's lotus fields. The plants are harvested for their stems, roots, and cupules. The area's cultivators frown on dehydrating, soaking, or bleaching the lotus root, techniques to extend its one-week shelf life.
Taiwan has been called the "Kingdom of Butterflies" with more than 400 species of butterflies in Taiwan, and 40 of them can be found nowhere else in the world! There was a time during the 1960's when thousands of workers here were producing butterfly art and crafts. It is estimated that some 10 million butterflies were caught every year.
