Starman: 8/11/09

Amazon pre-order

Hopefully this will include the R2 commentary track.

EDIT: This was mentioned in the Sony catalog thread, but I thought it deserved it's own thread. That is, unless folks think individual threads for every single release just clutter the forum, and we should stick to studio catalog threads, in which we can discuss all of the films that fall under that particular banner.

I try and only do 'big' catalog release or stuff this forum seems more interested in.

Any John Carpenter film demands its own thread! I will be picking this up on day 1.

Seconded on the R2 commentary. That's all I want. That will get me to upgrade.

I'll upgrade ANY JC flick on Blu (yes, even EFLA when it comes out), but the R2 commentary would be icing on the cake.

It's got some moments of dewy-eyed schmaltz going on, but Bridges and Allen make an extremely appealing couple. A sweet, simple film.

Re: Starman: 8/11/09

Video is nice for a film that is 25 years old. Solid transfer from Sony. No EE/DNR that I could see. Seemed to be a wee bit soft but I'll chalk it up to the film used in the 80's. The Audio is a step up though. The first ten minutes are pretty freaking awesome. Out of everything the sound was the one thing that kept me saying "this is an 80's film? Damn". I watched St Elmo;s Fire later on...and that was a disappointment (both in the picture/audio and film department). Not sure what's up with Sony and these 80's flicks right now...have Blue Thunder and About Last Night... to watch but no interest in either. Wonderful.

Re: Starman: 8/11/09

The Blu-ray.com review includes this risible claim, with italics added:
Starman represents one of cinema's most moving films of all time.

Re: Starman: 8/11/09

I enjoy Starman on cable from time to time, but one of the most moving films of all time? Really?

Re: Starman: 8/11/09

Unfortunately, it was too late to use that quote on this package. The reviewer is likely banking on a double dip that will incorporate the R2 DVD commentary.

I'm just interested in hearing more about John Carpenter's cannon.

Re: Starman: 8/11/09

Almost bought this the other day but picked up Replicant and Cutthroat Island instead since they were cheaper. Might have to go back and get it since it's pretty much the only Carpenter flick I haven't seen yet.
