July to October catalog titles from Sony

Blu-ray.com

According to information posted on the Wal-Mart website, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed that it will bring fifteen catalog titles to Blu-ray between July 28 and October 20. The list of titles features movies from all genres, from romance ('About Last Night…''Punch-Drunk Love') to western ('Silverado', 'The Quick and the Dead') to science fiction ('Starman').

No technical specs have been announced at this time, though you can expect the typical 1080p video accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack from the studio.

The full list of titles with their release dates is as follows:

July 28: 'A River Runs Through It'
August 11: 'About Last Night…', 'Blue Thunder', 'Starman', 'St. Elmo's Fire'
August 18: 'Go'
September 1: 'Labyrinth'
September 8: 'The Quick and the Dead', 'Silverado'
September 15: 'Easy Rider', 'Punch-Drunk Love'
October 13: 'The Craft', 'Wolf / Dracula / Frankenstein Trilogy' ('Wolf', 'Bram Stoker's Dracula', 'Mary Shelley's Frankenstein')
October 20: 'Freedomland', 'Snatch'
At least for the moment, 'Wolf' and 'Mary Shelley's Frankenstein' won't be available separately.

Starman, Labyrinth/Dark Crystal, Quick and the Dead, Easy Rider, PDL, Snatch for me. It'd be really great if Starman had that commentary and PDL had some new extras.

Hasn't Easy Rider already been announced? It would be a nice coup if they could get Nicholson's involvement, at least in an advisory capacity.

Several of these titles will require some major work. And I am very doubtful this will happen--Blue Thunder for example.

I wonder how they decide catalog titles to prioritize over others?

Wolf artwork from HDRoom. This will have DTS-HD audio. The list price is $24.99. Nice to see that new price point used for a new catalog title.

Looks like TrueHD is dead at Sony as well.

So just Warner left with it?

Um... since when are Coppola's "Dracula", Branagh's "Frankenstein", and Mike Nichol's "Wolf" a trilogy?

Marketing can make anything a trilogy. But I think they hope with Universal playing catch up and the classic monsters MIA, that they'll drop three monster movies in prep for October.

Deniro in the Frankenstein movie is one of his last interesting roles, I think. He's nearly unrecognizable the entire movie.
