Releases July 24th in Japan.
Disappointing that it will only be the theatrical with the deleted scenes separate. I was hoping they'd reintegrate the deleted footage via seemless branching.
It's also odd that there is no cast/crew commentary.
Amazon.com is now listing the release date of the U.S. DVD & Blu-Ray as July 28th.
There seem to be no specs posted for the US release as of yet. I just hope we get the promised 100 minute extended cut.

The best I can gather from the following two links is that the Japanese BD release will also include the DVD as a second disc (unless that is a digital copy):
http://movies.foxjapan.com/dragonball/
http://video.foxjapan.com/frameset.h...=4988142748829
And there's talk of a Z-Edition release as well:
Source: http://dbthemovie.com/2009/05/13/dra...ion-z-edition/
When I went to TheFanboyReview.com there was the following bit of information:
Source: http://www.fanboyreview.net/2009/05/...l-evolution-z/
So much for an exteneded cut.

And there's talk of a Z-Edition release as well:
TheFanboyReview.com is reporting that one of the home video releases of Dragonball: Evolution will be coming out with the title “Z-Edition” tacked on. What this means is anyone’s guess, but extended and deleted scenes are likely. The DVD and Blu-Ray are expected to drop in the summer.
When I went to TheFanboyReview.com there was the following bit of information:
Having watched a screener of the “Z-Edition” film with two other staff members, I think it’s probably likely that “Z-Edition” is just what they will be calling the DVD instead of special edition, or any other name and not necessarily signifying a new cut of the movie. Will update if we get any more info on it.
So much for an exteneded cut.

Was this movie ever released theatrically in the US? All I know about it is James Marsters (who played Spike on Buffy and Angel) was cast as the green bad guy, but I never saw the film being at any of my local theaters....
OK, just checked: it did come out VERY briefly in America on April 10....apparently it opened at #8 and made less than 5 million....

Yeah, it came out theatrically (I saw it twice) but had little to no promotion at all in the US. Oddly enough, it had a huge marketing push in Asian territories and was considered a hit over there. I'm not surprised it'd be a bigger hit in Asia but rather that Fox would promote it so well over there and offer little to no promotion in the US.
It was bound to tank if almost no one knew it was coming or even already out.
It made $9,142,557 in the US and $46,880,853 overseas. Apparently it's budget was around $40 million but who knows if a small gross profit of $16,023,410 plus whatever the DVD/BD sales generate will be enough to keep the already greenlit sequel rolling.

Here's a breakdown of the deleted scenes:
Source: http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classi...6?OpenDocument
Hmm, that's about 11 minutes worth of deleted footage. Could it be that the rumours of an extra 16 minutes of footage were over estimated or were there 27 minutes (total) worth of footage cut from the finished feature, meaning that an extended cut is still possible?
00:01:19:06 GOKU LEARNS ABOUT KI (DELETED SCENE)

Dragonball Evolution Z Edition (US - DVD R1 | BD RA) specs and coverart:
http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releas...evolution.html
I don't much care for the Amazon placeholder image since it's taken from my least liked onesheet for the movie. It was actually just a lazy cut and paste of several character-centric onesheets.
However, as for the coverart shown in DVDactive, I hope that's far from final. They took one of the Goku-centric onesheets and merged it with the group onesheet which was also used (in a slightly modified form) as the artwork for the score CD. I much prefer the original group onesheet with Goku holding the 4-star Ball.
As I guessed, the disc itself is a port of the Japanese BD/DVD release with the exception of the Japanese dub track and Japanese audio commentary. I don't get why they're holding off on an extended cut for this.

So they basically did a bad fotoshop of this poster (http://dbthemovie.com/gallery/albums...ster_002HQ.jpg) with this poster (http://dbthemovie.com/gallery/albums...ster_005LQ.jpg), altered Goku's wardrob and added some cheesy lightning effects to the Dragon Ball in his hand to come up with this coverart?
Lame.
This onesheet should have been the coverart:
This has a certain air of gravitas to it that would entice someone to pick it up out of curiosity, even if they'd never heard of it. Plus, it's really cool.
It's also sad when fanart looks better than a professional cover:

Ignoring the Sony DVD format to the back cover, that is what the cover should have been.

Is that Chow Yun-Fat on the cover? I had no clue he was in this.
No actor's career in the history of film has made me as sad as his, oh what happened to you Chow.

I don't think this should be an issue since it already appeared on hulu so I'll mention here that one of the special features of the upcoming BD/DVD is already out on youtube.

Re: Dragonball: Evolution Japanese DVD/Blu-Ray Specs and release dates for US and Jap
I picked up the BD of Dragonball Evolution on Friday. The video has not a single trace of DNR or any ringing on the image. I didn't realize just how grainy that movie really is. Looked great and I wish more studios produced BDs like this one in terms of video. The audio was very good (bassier than I remember) but not really a knockout. It's a rather front heavy mix (the the surrounds do get used they're mixed rather low for the most part) and most of the dialogue sounds like live audio that was cleaned up in post.
The extras were okay.
The deleted scenes were all in 1080p and presented with a 5.1 448kbps Dolby Digital mix. The deleted footage received the same stellar video treatment as the film proper but keep in mind that it has not been processed via digital intermediate and thus features none of the color correction and/or enhancement of the film proper. Also, the audio, though very good, is clearly a temp mix. To be honest, most of the footage could have stayed in the movie and would have enhanced it. The Fullums scene plays far better than the hastily cut final version and the extended scene with Sifu Norris helps give greater wait to Roshi and made his relationship with Norris seem richer. It's not a lot but it sure helps. The scene with Gokyu lifting a car was okay but didn't play as well as I was hoping it would. Mai's death is the same exact death as is in the film proper. All that happened was that some pipe-like stabbing weapon was digitally erased in the finished version and a CGI gun placed in Yamcha's hand. To be honest, I think the only reason the stabbing was changed was because the pipe thing bounched around like rubber when Mai fell to the ground. The snack bar bit was actually funny and could have easily been left in as it was a 5 second shot at most. There was also a 10 second extension to Goku, Roshu, and Bulma as they traveled. Gohan explaining Ki was very brief and need not have been cut. The extended first meeting of Goku and Bulma has a funny gag regarding Bulma's original name for her DBE Locator and Goku making fun of her name. Again, there was no reason for it to have been cut and shuffled around.
The Gag Reel is such in name only. There's only a few scattered funny bits. It's really just a random collection of behind the scenes footage. In it you see a bit more of Goku versus Piccolo (don't get excited as most of it you've seen before) but what's really interesting is footage of the original Oozaru. Yes, we've seen him before but there was fight footage with him, including wire work where they had him leaping through the air. Oozaru also appeared with a blue gi and the orange gi. The Mafuba dance is nowhere to be seen and does not appear anywhere in the BD.
The Making Of A Scene and Life After Film School mini-docs are perplexingly presented in windowboxed standard def. Why they weren't at least anamorphic is beyond me.
The Gokus Quest Game is rather lazy. You watch the movie and press the red button on your BD remote whenever a player generated Dragon Ball appears onscreen while you watch the movie. After you click on all seven, skip to the end of the movie and you're offered a reward. It's a 2:36 clip about the props in the film. It's interesting but far too brief. During the tail end you'll see the different Dragon Balls that were made until coming to the finished design. If you feel inclined to play the game, play the movie at 10x speed. The Dragon Balls will still appear and you'll finish the game in little over 8 minutes.
The Worked Up music video is terrible. I don't recall if I even made it up to a minute. Supposedly the song is in the movie but I don't recall it one bit. Why they didn't include the music video for Rise is a mystery.
The less said of Goku's Workout, the better. It doesn't even feature footage of Stuart Chatwin preparing for the role or anything worth watching.
There's no extended fight footage in sight (other than the brief glimpses in the so-called gag reel and in Life After Film School). There's no footage of the "Fist Cams".
