Why would I want digital copy?

Re: Why would I want digital copy?
After using a digital copy once, I've felt it's easier to either download a portable version or just make one myself. Mostly due to problems with getting the DRM to work right.
What really cooks my goose, and has nothing to do with digital copies, is that Terminator DVD that if you use it on your computer you can load up some deal where you can make your own killing machine that would get rated against other people.
I make and account and when I go to login, I find out that their registration page lets you make accounts with a password or username that's an invalid length. When you go to login, then it tells you that your username or password is too long, and you then find out the rules for those and have to make another account.
What the hell?

I don't mind having themincluded with my BD, as long as I'm not paying extra :cough: Disney :cough:
I usually keep one or two on my iPhone to pass the time while I'm taking a dump or waiting in a line. I can't tell you how many times I've lost track of time on the bowl watching Rambo.

Never really used it. I guess if I knew I was going to be sitting somewhere for several hours it would come in handy...but my 8GB iPhone would only be able to hold 2 movies max with my current music supply. But its a way for studios to keep Blu-ray pricing at a premium since they are giving you all these 'added' features. I'd rather dump the DC and/or DVD and have the MSRP be lower.
If I could take the train or bus to work, I would definitely use them.

Except that's exactly what studios are doing - tossing in DC/DVDs as a way to either increase the MSRP or keep it at a certain level because of all of the 'added features'. This goes the same for DVD as well for both Day and Dates and catalog releases. I'd rather pay less instead of forking over additional monies for something I will never use. I think the last numbers we got were 20% of people (on a certain title, can't remember which - Matrix?) activated the DC. That means 80% found it to be useless.

I have used the DC for every film I have got on BD. The files are usually at a size of 1.3 gig so the picture quality is pretty good.
It was great watching the car chase in TDK on the bus ride into work. I also have the AppleTV so I can sit on sofa and just go through what I want to watch, I can chose from Forgetting Sarah Marshall or Death Race.
I love it!

Re: Why would I want digital copy?
My problem is that they don't use space properly. If digital copy discs contained two versions of the movie (1 for your computer, and a version that could be accessed via standard DVD player) instead of being wastefully used on just a digital copy, I would love them, because many of my friends don't have Blu-Ray players, so if I want to watch that movie with them, I'm out of luck. It doesn't have to include the DVD bonus features, just be usable as both a digital copy and a standard DVD, and it'd be great.
Otherwise, I'm not against them, I just have no use for them, as I don't own an iPod, and if I had a laptop I'd probably have a DVD or Blu-Ray drive on it and just watch my many, already-purchased DVD/BDs.

The digital copy got practical for me when I got my iPhone a few months ago and realized I could use the Disney digital copies to keep my daughter occupied on long trips. Honestly, I don't see a huge difference in BD prices between BD only releases and BD's with digital copies. If the prices could be dropped $5 or more on average by omitting the digital copy, then I'm all for it. Or maybe if Disney allowed us to have the option of purchasing the digital copy online for a small price, then I'd be for that.

Re: Why would I want digital copy?
DRM infested digital copy = useless
Normally for most movies it's hard to watch on anything but the projector (105").
I like that some of them are including a DVD. That's cool. Since the DRM is easy to deal with on a DVD I can always rip it and encode it to Xvid.
But I have absolutely no interest in DRM'd videos. Zero. Even though we do have an ipod touch now (the wife has it) if she uses the digital copy I'm just going to end up having to spend time cracking the DRM when she swaps computers or whatever. Just like the last time her Itunes collection DRM went haywire (on a swap to a new computer). Ugh. No thanks.
