1. Both the Matrix Trilogy and Ultimate Collection qualify for the upgrade to the Blu Ultimate Collection. They simply don't have a link for the vanilla Trilogy, so in the mean time use the UC link when ordering.

Well this is great news for me. I thought I'd be screwed at the fact that I have the Matrix Trilogy and hot the Ultimate collection. But if I send in the Matrix Trilogy slips, what do I get in return? The Ultimate Edition set? Only ting that sucks is that I put in my order for my 5 and now I'll have to pay an extra shipping cost when I place my order for the Marix set. I guess overall I'm not out a lot considering I bought the trilogy for $14.95 when Circuit City had that online price screw-up.

I think I may bite on Planet Earth as long as its the Attenborough version...my HD DVD skips on the last two episodes on disc two.

It sucks that Blade Runner is such a rip...I bought mine at Movie Gallery (new with cover) but I have it split up into 3 cases...would love to have it on Blu-ray...

Debating on: Casablanca, Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, and 300...hmmmmmm...

I was this close to buying a few blu-rays of HDdvds I already had, but now I'm glad I was lazy about it.

Sweet. They don't need the paper sleeve from Matrix! I'm all over that one.

I spent the last hour prepping my HD-DVDs for this promotion, since many of them were still shrinkwrapped. The only real casualty is the Harry Potter 1 digipak CD case which is decent quality, it's too bad they didn't ask for the bonus DVD case, but maybe that was shared among the regular DVD set. I'll photocopy the remaining sleeves before mailing them out.

Yep. I have 3 myself. One XA2, and two LG HD DVD / Blu ROM drives. This should be allowed for more than 25 titles. I mean really WB, look at my damn sig.

The Oceans set says you must send in the flattened box. Unless you mean you are paying an extra $5 and sending in the 3 titles individually, but then you have to send the cover art. I'd rather save 5 bucks and send in the box, and keep the cover art...

I'm not viewing this as a replacement. I look at it like I'm getting a bunch of blu-ray discs at $4.95 a piece. Very sweet deal.

But they don't have Grand Prix on the list. I found it in my collection and checked the list with no avail.

Which of the Harry Potter films have the PIP on HD-DVD but not on BD? I don't want to trade in for the BD if it doesn't have PIP...

I agree in a sense, but I still see no point in getting titles that are worse than their HD-DVD counterpart...

Re: Warner launches "Red2Blu" trade-in program

OK, can anyone provide a comprehensive list of those titles that have "upgraded" picture quality as compared to the HD-DVD versions? As in, which are out in BD-50s while the HD counterpart is only HD-25 or HD-15? Already listed is PERFECT STORM. I guess MATRIX Trilogy, and CASABLANCA would also qualify (I assume they are BD50s)... What about OCEAN's trilogy?

How about the Kurbick films, all of which I own on HD?

PLANET EARTH seems like it's the identical encode on both HD and BD. Might be worth it since we only need to send in the cover art, not the HD-DVD discs...

I didn't buy an XA2 for nothing, but this deal is tempting...

This is great, I have quite a few WB HD-DVDs that I was just going to eventually buy on BD, now I can get them super cheap!

Ones best bet for researching any quality difference is to search for reviews on the titles one is considering at DVD-Basen and compare reviews. A site like High-Def Digest almost always had the same reviewer comparing both the BD/HD DVD releases. The amount of data the disc holds doesn't necessarily equate to improved quality in the cases of most of these WB titles as they were done for both formats at the time.

The BD versions that should be superior to the HD DVD versions (might not be comprehensive)..

Batman Begins (The Dark Knight IMAX Prologue)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (HD extras)
I Am Legend (additional extras)
Matrix, The (both in the UE and if one desires the DigiBook packaging/booklet)
Perfect Storm, The (1080p)
Sopranos, The: Season Six, Part One (PCM)

The HD DVD versions that should be superior to the BD versions (might not be comprehensive)..

300.. The current BD release omits some of the HD DVD extras.
Ant Bully, The (TrueHD)
Blood Diamond (IME)
Happy Feet (TrueHD)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (IME)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (IME)
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (a review or two mentioning an ever so sligthly "better" picture quality on the HD DVD. Probably so subtle as not to matter either way. BD is MPEG-2, HD DVD is VC-1.)
Lady in the Water (TrueHD)
Nip/Tuck: The Complete Fourth Season (1.5 Mbps)
Phantom of the Opera, The (TrueHD)
Rumor Has It... (Improved PQ)
Training Day (Improved PQ/TrueHD)
Wicker Man, The (TrueHD)

Re: Warner launches "Red2Blu" trade-in program

It would be cheaper for me to pick up an extra HD DVD player than send in most of my titles. I think I'm going to stick with what I got.

I might consider replacing everything, only if Universal and Paramount jumped on board, but tough luck on that I guess.

This is a stupid question but do these cases feature the Blu Ray logo on the top front of the case?

I'm having a hard time deciding which discs to go for and which to skip. Like everyone else, I'm disappointed in the cost for the Blade Runner set (I paid under $20 for the HD-DVD version) but I really want this one.

I could be wrong, but I think that title is still an HD DVD exclusive . . .

It says it has the Blu-Ray logo and even though it is hard to tell you can see it in the picture. This is the route I plan on going.

Awwww, man I totally want to trade in my dark knight and harry potter gift set! Damn it sucks living in Canada this week. No Sin City, no documentary on The Wrestler Blu ray, and no Hd trade in program. I'm going back to bed until next week.

but you guys got sin city months ago, true its a barebones only theatrical version but that didnt stop quite a few people north of the border charging an arm and a leg for those of us in the usa who wanted it before the us release.

I had nothing to do with any of the gouging, and I wasn't about to buy a barebones version of the film, knowing full well there'd be a better one out within the next few months. I like my special features and am feeling slightly cheated.

Re: Warner launches "Red2Blu" trade-in program

I really want to jump in on this deal, if just to replace my Harry Potters. My HD DVD player hasn't been hooked up since I purchased a Blu-ray player. I only have one HD input. I use a selector, but I also have a digital box (my TV doesn't have a tuner) and my PC hooked up through it. I thought about buying a new selector (especially since the one I have now is acting up) that will give me more inputs, but I'd still rather move what I can to Blu, especially to have all my Harry Potters the same (especially since I separate my HD DVD and Blu Rays). I also have 300, We Are Marshall, and Blade Runner. They're all in a DVD case from purchasing them from Hollywood Video used, but they included the original sleeves. Getting those switched to a Blu-ray case will make me happier. Though should I not jump on Blade Runner? I questioned my purchase of Blade Runner on HD DVD, anyway. I never was a huge fan, but I did want to see the new versions. However, my wife won't watch it, so I don't know if I'd ever get around to watching it, anyway. I think I just picked it up because it seemed cheap at the time (being that it was only available in that expensive suitcase set at the time).

As for other movies, it's tempting to purhcase some cheap HD DVDs and trade them in. Any good deals out there? I'd like to get Casablanca, Christmas Vacation, and maybe Twister, August Rush, and TMNT. If Planet Earth is definitely the BBC version, then I'd like to get that as well.
