Long shot but is there anyone here that isn't planning on trading in their Matrix: UE set that would be willing to part with the paper sleeve? I need it.

I had my roommate check for me, I still have the slip. Thank goodness. Animatrix in HD, here I come!

Edit: In addition to The Matrix collection, I also went ahead and upgraded Casablanca, Pan's Labyrinth, my Kubrick discs, and my Harry Potter discs. Total came to $69 and change. Not too shabby for 9 individual discs and a box set.

That's very cool of Warner!

The $5 per + $7 is kind of steep, but it's awesome of them to make it so that you keep your HD DVDs in the process.

Thanks to this promotion I'll definitely be updating with more new customs and/or hi-res retail replacements in the next couple of weeks.

I also like Hammer99's idea of just putting the HD in an envelope inside the Blu case.

According to fine print, this will go on until Dec. 31, so plenty of time to make choices and create replacement covers. :)

It's cool of Warner to offer a deal like this, but I think I'm going to pass. I just checked and I'd be pushing $100 to "upgrade". That's a fair bit of money when most titles will be exactly the same except in blue case instead of red.

Plus, what am I going to do with a stack of now useless and coverless HD-DVDs? I don't want multiple copies of the same movie sitting around, but at the same time I'm not going to trash them. I could sell them, but I suspect the resale value with the cover gone will be hurt, particularly when the market is flooded with coverless HDs.

So yeah, I'll be passing.

I keep seeing that sentiment. But doesn't it cost around $5 or so to produce a whole disc? Warner is probably doing this at cost.
It's probably a combination of marketing and PR for nothing for them. It will probably get people who are just sitting on HD and its upconversion to buy into Blu and become potential buyers of other Blu releases.

Considering many of these titles are 'stale' they are likely just getting rid of excess stock.

The disc creation is already done anyway, though. Even if we assume the high costs are still in place, there's very little marketing or skilled labor to pay out on this. Plus, they're creating new future sales opportunities, upping current sales numbers, and helping perception of their company. It's actually pretty brilliant and Paramount and Universal would be silly not to follow suit at some point.

With all of those benefits in mind, would it really be that hard to remove the shipping fee? Or, do a "Send in 5 or more titles and receive a free copy of Warner's fantastic new comedy Yes Man!" For that matter, add in a copy of Shawshank after all of the promises inside every Warner HD DVD. :)

Then again, when are prices ever low enough in the eyes of the buyer (or high enough in the eyes of the seller)? :)

In that regard, perhaps the company assumes people who convert to Blu-ray will rebuy all titles at full price, making this program very generous of Warner for giving up all of that potential money. There again, though, they're probably making as much from "us" here as they would selling at full price through a marked up retailer.

Same here. Great for those inclined to do so or have a handful of titles and might be able to sell their player and collection to pay for the replacements but I don't have the need personally. Perhaps if every single title I owned, by all studios, were eligible and I could then sell the player and movies to pay for it. Then I would be more inclined to consider this as worthwhile.

The vast majority of the ones I bought were due to the price being $5 or less (didn't get into buying them until the last few months). Spending another $5+ and the only thing it accomplishes is to change the color of the case and then having an unneeded duplicate holds no appeal for me (can't imagine getting more than $1 each for the HD DVD discs alone after dealing with shipping).

I figure by the time my player dies that these will be readily available for close to the same amount (a number of them are approaching $10 for an everyday price already and likely will be found less than that by the holidays when this offer ends). If I'm going to dispose of $100, might as well get something I don't already own.

I'm not going to order any right now. This promotion runs until the end of the year... I have plenty of time to decide if there are titles I want to do this for. But until then, this is a no go. And I have to keep my HD DVD player anyway for Lady in the Water because it has a Dolby TrueHD track that the Blu-ray release doesn't have (and believe it or not - that is one of my favorite movies).

It would be nice to have all the Harry Potter films on Blu-ray and Batman Begins (to match The Dark Knight). I might do it for at least those... but I might not. I'm waiting on it.

The people at the call in center said they have been getting a lot of calls about the Matrix Box and people not having the paper slip from the back. They said to call back in a few days and WB should have an answer for that problem. I assume they will likely just ask for you to mail in all 4 individual slip covers. That is what makes the most sense to me.

Aside from that -- I'm in for 20+ Blu-Rays. I have a handful of Paramount HD-DVDs and a bunch of Universal ones that I would also trade in if they offered a similar offer. Hopefully they will follow suit.

I asked earlier, I think it got lost in the shuffle. Is it confirmed that they are sending cases and cover art as well, or is there a chance its disc only?

That's what the image says of the promotion. If these aren't brand new blu-ray's in perfect condition then I imagine there will be a lot of pissed off customers. I don't see any reason why they would do something other than just send the new movies.

when i asked they said its going to be "retail copies" of them. that includes the HP:LE set, which was my big concern.

upgrading PE since my hd skips a bit, Oceans set because i still keep the box (good deal there) and my HP:LE.

now who is going to sell me their coverless HD's cheap....:)

I'm in for 5. I just wish they would do the Matrix Trilogy, and Grand Prix which are the last 2 Warner's Bros titles I have. I'm assuming if this promo is on until the end of the year, the'll be adding to this list?

Someone on Blu-ray.com forums, Westonian, had this to say:

"The rep I spoke with on the phone said they've been asked about this all day. The answer that she was given via official memo is that:

1. Both the Matrix Trilogy and Ultimate Collection qualify for the upgrade to the Blu Ultimate Collection. They simply don't have a link for the vanilla Trilogy, so in the mean time use the UC link when ordering.

2. If you no longer have the paper with the UPC code on it, send the three labels for the movies themselves as they do have proper UPC codes and will work just fine."

So maybe sending in the three individual covers will work and get you the ultimate set. I may jump on this deal after all if I can do that.
