Ah, okay. I was under the mistaken impression that the US DVD and BD releases were to follow the same pattern.

Well then I'll simply rent the director's cut BD to see if it improves my opinion of the movie. If it does, I'll wait for the ultimate edition.

Thanks for correcting my misunderstanding, Mr. Cinema.

I know this is beyond the realm of possibility, but how awesome would it be to get Alan Moore to do a commentary on this - even if it's two hours of him shitting on the film and how it's all wrong, the dude always has something to say, and is always interesting.

I would think Director's Cut = Ultimate Edition

It's not. Zack Snyder already said it's not. There are plans for an "Ultimate Edition" release sometime this holiday season.

As badly as the movie ended up doing I am not sure we can count on them doing more than one release.

I assume if the Dvd and BD do huge numbers we might see a double dip. If not they may cut their losses and move on unless they have a contractual obligation to produce it.

That might actually top the severe bashing in the critics commentary of the Matrix set.

He'll do it, but only if they remove his name from the commentary.

Zack said the "Deluxe Edition" would be a Blu release only and they have had this one planned since the very beginning. How that relates to sales remains to be seen. If it is Blu only and a prestige product it would lead me to believe it was more likely than not.

I am sure that was the plan ,but the movie opened up good at 55 million and then fell off the earth in the US to end up less than $110 million.

If the Dvd/Blu Ray sales of this release are not very good i could see Warner not wasting another penny on Watchmen and moving on.

Obviously if they do well then a double dip to get some more cash out of the movie will happen.

Speed Racer was supposed to get an uber deluxe release last year. Big-ass documentary. Super special features. The works.

Then the movie came out and does horrible at the box office. We end up with a couple of featurettes and a DVD game.

I hope Watchmen doesn't go this route.

Watchmen has a more serious fan base than SR. I imagine a super special edition will come out, but not for a while.

I'm wondering why we haven't heard more about the Watchmen Director's Cut movie + Watchmen The End Is Nigh video game Blu-ray package. The lack of details is making me think it'll be a store exclusive. Since my Blu-ray player is a PS3, I'd definitely be interested in this version. :)

As much as I want that Blu-ray steelbook packaging, there's no way that I'm going to be paying $44 for it.

I'm sure it'll be around $29.99 when the release date rolls around, like The Dark Knight steelbook. The steelbook art is much improved over the regular edition's cover art also. Plus, this gives me a reason to drop the cash for this one on release day (since $10 is my new price point on BDs these days and I usually would not consider paying more).

^Same here - although my price point is about $15... you'd have to wait a long time for most new releases to drop to $10.

I'm going to hold off then. I want the theatrical edition and I think the Ultimate Edition will include maybe 3 different cuts.

Yeah, just like those Ultimate Editions of "Kill Bill", "Grindhouse", "300" and a half dozen other promised releases we never saw.

The bottom line is if the Blu-ray doesn't sell well, there will be no rush for another edition anytime soon.

Kill Bill and Grindhouse might happen soon with the possible collapse of Weinstein.
