Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
Yeah, but the smiley has been on the spine on both the BD of Black Freighter and the Motion Comic.
PS: Will we still be able to watch the theatrical cut on this DC disc? I was hoping theatrical would be out first, with the DC later. |
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
hopefully they do it like Close Encounters, where they don't need a whole new disc to watch the different versions.

Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
Warner Bros. Warner Home Video has announced the technical specs and special features for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Watchmen: Director's Cut', which is due to hit store shelves on July 28, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. The only version of the movie on this Blu-ray edition will be the director's cut, which is 3 hours and 10 minutes long, according to statements by director Zack Snyder. However, a standard-definition digital copy of the theatrical cut will also be included. Extras are as follows: * Maximum Movie Mode (BD exclusive) * Watchmen: Focus Points * The Phenomenon: The Comic that Changed Comics * Real Super Heroes, Real Vigilantes (BD exclusive) * Mechanics: Technologies of a Fantastic World (BD exclusive) * Music Video: Desolation Row (My Chemical Romance) * Digital Copy (theatrical version) * BD-Live The Maximum Movie Mode will allow split-screen viewing of "Watchmen" to focus on elements in director Zack Snyder's on-camera commentary. As we already reported yesterday, it will be possible to sync up the BD-Live functionality on this title with friend networks on Facebook. |
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
If Warner are smart, they'll do what Peter Jackson & crew did with Lord of the Rings - no overlap of extras between the regular and deluxe versions. This means that folk won't feel too bad about owning two editions.

Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
Will probably just pick this up and pass on the Ultimate set later this yr, esp if it's the oversized gift set variety WB has been doing.
|
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
I think I'll just grab this version and skip the Ultimate as well... I have seen Black Freighter BD used for like $10, so I'll grab that (already got the motion comic) and this release and call it a day.

Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
Really disappointed it's just the Director's cut. I'll probably wait.
|
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
Now Warner has sent out an email stating these releases are coming out on July 21st again. Which is it already?! :p
|
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
No Theatrical Cut? That's BS!
|
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
Will wait for the ultimate editon...and hope it lets you choose between the Directors Cut and the Even more Directors Cut (with the black freighter footage)
|
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
Ultimate Ed for me with Black Freighter footage edited in.

Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
I learned my lesson with Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. If I like a flick enough, I'll just buy it now as I may never see the uber-Ultimate-Special-Collector's Edition.

Gonna pass on Watchmen. Didn't look that interesting and I have no intentions of watching a 3+ hour film. |
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
In The Digital Bits' My Two Cents for May 13, they list this as streeting on July 21 (and not 28):
For some reason, I listed the Watchmen street date as 7/28 in yesterday's post. It's actually 7/21, the same day as the new 300 Blu-ray. |
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
Blu-ray.com is reporting that the PS3 game The End is Nigh will be release in a collector's edition set along with the BD film.

Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
This is the back cover from DVD Active. The audio is DTS HD. I wonder if this is just for this film or if WB is making a switch:

Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
DTS-HD!? Nice!
I'll order this one on Amazon, no question. |
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
sounds good to me. I'll be picking this up, I can't wait for the uber-ultimate edition.
|
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
Very cool about DTS-HD. Odd that it was submitted for a new rating. I thought it would just be UR.
|
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
Never thought I'd see DTS on a WB BD. Nice! I know that, even with the Uber-Edition coming soon, I'll end up buying this.

Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
DTS MA is interesting on a Warner title. This combined with Sony's recent 'survey' makes me wonder if DTS is slowly buying up studios to be DTS only leaving Dolby in the dust. As always, lossless is lossless is lossless so it does not really matter, but this would really suck for those that have older (i.e. pre 2009) stand alone players that can't internally decode DTS MA but could for TrueHD. Oh well, glad my player does both.
TrueHD: Warner/Newline Sony Paramount/ Dreamworks (for the time being) Weinstein Anchor Bay DTS MA: Fox/MGM Universal Lionsgate Disney/Pixar HBO Summit Criterion Blue Underground Alliance (Canadian) |
Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)
Criterion also uses DTS.
