not doing what with BD? using eco friendly cases?
you might want to re-read the article and take note of the BDs that have already been released in this packaging

It's missing bits to be more eco-friendly.

Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"

From Mall Cop on, all of Sony’s single-disc standard-definition DVDs will incorporate ultra-light cases that feature 20% less plastic than Sony’s previous single-disc standard DVDs and will be covered with plastic shrinkwrap that is 20% lighter.
Hmmm... my single-disc Widescreen edition of "The Incredible Hulk" has packaging that looks like this. It makes the case structure a little more flimsy and you can definitely tell it's more lightweight, but nothing wrong with that. I like it better than the packaging Disney used for some releases of WALL-E. Mostly cardboard with a thin plastic tray to hold the DVD. Bleh.

He just got off suspension. I think he's still discombobulated.

I don't mind cheaper cases as long as the reduced costs are reflected in software prices.

Spoiler:
I know that'll never happen.

ROTFL!

I am pretty much on board with this if things will arrive safely. Slipcovers have always seemed like a waste of time to me.

Wow, that sucks. Now I'm gonna have to buy more blank cases on Amazon.

I'm trying to have my name changed. We can't have two Blu Mans running around the same forum, and I never really liked the name anyway.

I like slipcovers, but I kind of like the idea of not seeing them anymore since I'm more likely to make purchases earlier than normal to insure I get one.

I know plenty of you can relate.

What's wrong with the plastic they use now? It's made from 100% organic oil.

Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"

I just picked up both Casino Royale (2-disc) and QoS. This flimsy packaging does suck. QoS had one of those square anti-theft stickers (like Circuit City used to use) on the inside of the front cover partially stuck to the back of the artwork. I un-stuck it so no harm done. I also noticed the plastic is a darker shade of blue.

For the price of blu-rays, they should all be steelbook.

Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"

I just got one of the new cases and it is a lot more durable than people think. I even replaced the disc cover with a cover from another release that I had two of and try to screw with it. It held up surprisingly well.

I'm not sure how secure the discs would be during shipping, though.

Yeah, we wouldn't want a Blu Man Group.

I agree. I don't get all the angst over this. As long as the hub holds the disc securely and I don't have floaters, I don't have a problem with it.

So far as the bubble envelope stuff is concerned, I mostly get BDs from Amazon and Columbia House and they ship in cardboard boxes (and replace damaged discs promptly). I sell a lot of BDs and DVDs and I ship in custom designed cardboard boxes made from cardboard I receive. If bubble mailers are a problem, don't use them.

I thought the main argument for biodegradable packaging was to reduce the number of non-biodegradable items that are thrown away and sent to landfills & such.

Who’s throwing away their DVD and Blu-ray cases?

Re: Sony "Eco Friendly Packaging from May 19th on!"

I replaced both my LTK and TMWTGG cases last night. The eco-cases are as bad (or worse) than I feared. Even though I think it looks like shit, I don't have a huge problem per say with the left side of them. At worst you end up with some damaged artwork. OTOH, if you hit that bottom side on a rough edge or anything similar, you run the high risk of knocking against the data side of the disc. A case should protect the disc from all but severe abuse. As I told my wife, time to place an order for more replacement cases. I for one will make it a point to NOT recycle the eco-cases but rather fill my local landfill with them.

Licence to Kill and The Man with the Golden Gun

Yes, it's sad I immediately knew that without any other context.
