Those thick 3 disc cases have (already) been discontinued.

Really? Do you have any idea why? I especially liked them to be quite honest.

Don't know the exact reason but I could guess...

- Retailers want thinner cases to stock more copies
- The new 3 disc "slim" cases use less plastic

I'm quite surprised that the price on this is so low (lowest I've seen is $55). I'll definitely be picking this up on release day. It will be one of the few times I pick up a day one release that isn't some exclusive limited edition.

Sorry to jump in off-topic, but when I heard about the new high-capacity discs this was one of my first thoughts too. There's plenty of TV shows shot on video that won't benefit from high-def transfers, and I'd love to see as full seasons on single discs (Star Trek TNG, DS9 and VOY come to mind).

If you have a large enough TV, everything will benefit from higher resolution.

Amazon has just lowered the X-Men trilogy to 48.49 w/free shipping of course

Even if b&m has this for around $55 come street and you use the $10 off coupon from PJ once you add tax (and your driving around) you are pretty much at the same price

Well no, not in the case of the middle Trek series. They were filmed on actual film but edited on video, as were all the optical effects (at fullscreen ratio, no less). Only Paramount knows what the quality of the film masters is, and I'm guessing they're not great.

To have TNG/DS9/VOY in full high-def glory, they would have to find and restore the film masters, re-edit every single episode again, including every single optical effect. Sorry but that's not happening.

Does anyone know if the three movie pack has each movie in standard cases?
or is it some god forsaken cardboard fold out packaging?

generally what ever the lowest price (no matter how short of time it was listed) after you pre order is the price you pay. they are pretty good about that.

This looks to be the UK version. No idea what the US will look like since it has 3 Digital Copies.

I thought it had already been reported to be like the X-Files two pack, with all three movies in individual cases (just like their separate releases) inside a cardboard box? I thought they were using the regular width cases that could hold three discs, like the BD of Firefly....
It better not be like those Bond volumes, or god help us that Omen shit.....

who ever designed that omen box needs to be fired.

Ordered mine from Best Buy Canada online for $49.49 plus $1.99 shipping, to take advantage of a weekend sale. If as the date draws closer I see B&Ms advertising a lower price I'll cancel my preorder, but I think $51.48+tax for this set is an ok deal.

Looks like a region B for sure but not really a UK release. It isn't plastered with ratings logos (one of the reason I have the US PS3!) also some of that writing might be German on that sticker.
Still it looks a nice set but I will only begetting X2, cannot stand the other films.

That is a good deal...I was tempted but I've had some orders take forever to ship from Best Buy and I'm not sure of the movie cash situation (since sometimes they have it separate), so I'm gonna risk waiting to get it instore on the release date...

Even so, it's not a huge savings for me compared to waiting to pick it up in-store on release day. Only $4 saved after taxes compared to buying it at $54.99, but still, 4 bucks is 4 bucks. From what I've read, the movie cash should be included inside the set.
